VS10+ Editor does not detect scenes correctly

Post by hanspeter »

Dear Video collegues

I have a challenging and interesting problem and I hope some of you can help me:

I've made about 25minutes long video on 8cm mini-DVD+RW with my Sony Handycam, so the files are in VOB format and the actual video files are two, one about 1G and the other about 300k.
I have transfered the complete VIDEO-TS folder to my harddisk.

When I use the IMPORT DVD/DVD-VR button it imports the video and I can see the individual chapters. When I click all the chapters individually for importation into VS10+, then it does only import the first chapter. When I click the complete video, then it imports it, but only a part of the whole video.

When I use IMPORT Media and I import directly the two VOB files then they are correctly visible in the editor and also the video length is correct. When I apply the scene detector, it detects all the scenes correctly, but when I want to play some of the clips they do not play back, only the first clips in the beginning, about 6 minutes of the video. For all the others the playback window remains black and nothing happens.
I have also tried to edit the complete video file, ie. the VOB file. When I open the multitrim window, it gets very slow and and VS10 stops to work and I have to shut down.

Before I open VS10+ I close all virus and spysweeper applications as well as any other application that I do not need. I also remove all the USB connected equipments.

Any advice/idea what could be the problem here?

Best regards and thanks in advance for your help.

You have a faulty source video. Sometimes minor errors in the VOB files only show up when you perform a task such as this. Your DVD player is designed to skip over these minor faults.

Hi sjj1805

the original source video still exists on the mini DVD+RW disks. When I put the disks into my Sony DVD handycam and show it directly on the TV then everything works fine.

However, of course I would like to edit the videos and cut out the bad scenes....
