Videostudio 11 Runtime error... It's all BULL#%@!

Post by Mykro »

I went out and spent Retail dollars on Videostudio !! plus and 6% into rendering my project I get this runtime error message;

"This application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusaul way. Please contact the application support team for more information."

Why can't Visualstudio do a forced rendering and just punch through it.. At least giving me the option to quit with the rendering process or accept errors and continue?? I'm not trying to win an oscar for my home made movie of my vacation.. After all the versions of this software you'd think it would work by now!!

Can you tell us whether the rendering was occurring when you chose Share > Create Video File > DVD, or was it occurring in the burning module (i.e. you did your editing and then chose Share > Create Disc)?

It happened when I chose to save it as a file.
Share>Create Video File>DVD/VCD/SVCD/MPEG> MPEG2

Would splitting it up into 2 files Help?? If so, how would I do that?

How big is the file? If you are aiming to burn it to a single layer DVD, the program should have no difficulty in handling a file around 4 GB in size. So there is no obvious reason to split it.

I have answered your question about cutting in another thread.

By the way, if you *are* intending to burn a DVD, then you should choose Share > Create Video File > DVD, and not mpeg-2 as the default mpeg-2 properties are not necessarily DVD compliant...

We also need to know what sort of video, and its properties, went into your project and what editing you did to it.

We also need to know what sort of video, and its properties, went into your project and what editing you did to it.
Here are the properties of the project:
The file size is 462.5KB
The duration is: 01:21:20:05

NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo

I only added a title to the project.
one sound track in the begining.
And a scene transition between each scene.
The project is composed of video and images. But the project gave me the error at the same spot each time way before I ever added anything to it. No transitions, title, or sound track.

Those properties look fine. Will Video Studio actually play the original video right through without stopping, as a preview, either in Clip or Project Mode? (I am talking about before you try to render it.)

And will it play in, say, Windows Media Player? (Again I am talking about the original video.)

It is possible that the video has become corrupt in some way. Where exactly did it come from?

Yes.. Yes.. and Yes.. The camera I used ia a vivitar dvr-530. It plays straight through in VS and all clips play in Windows media player too. Corrupt?.. How could it be corrupt if it plays through in VS and plays in Windows media player??

What I've been able to find on your camera, is that it records to MPEG-4, which is a very highly compressed format. With one of your video clips in the Library or Timeline of VS, right-click on it please post those properties back here.

And on top of what Ron just posted I notice from that link that the cam has VideoStudio 8SE bundled with it.

In your first post you mention paying for VS retail.

Very often the SE versions are specially tweaked to work with the hardware they are bundled with. Can you clarify which version of VS you are running?

The video It is mpeg4..

Mpeg4z
24 bits
640X 480
29.962 frames/sec

The camera did come bundled with VS 8 VCD SE

I'm sorry.. I wish I new more about this sort of thing.. In my haste I went and bought VS 11 plus. I've been a fool...

But still, Isn't VS 11 plus the grand daddy program? Wouldn't it still handle what my camera is throwing at it? Why wouldn't it still work?

VS 8 VCD SE does not recognize the file format of my project now.. Would I have to start over with VS 8?

What do you guys suggest I do now.. I've been profoundly humbled by this expierence now so far..

Also, After I cut the project How do you delete the other half ?

One of the problems with the frame size of your captured video (i.e. 640 x 480) is that this is not part of the DVD standard. In other words, in converting the mpeg-4 to DVD-compliant mpeg-2, the program is not just having to change the compression, but also do something about the frame size to bring it into DVD compliance. This would involve setting it, say, for the NTSC standard 720 x 480. Just another complication, though it should be able to do it.

As for using the version of VS8 you have, I am afraid that "VCD SE" means that it is crippled and will only allow you to burn a VCD, and not a DVD. In fact, if I recall correctly, it will only allow you to prepare a relatively low quality mpeg-1 (which is what goes on VCDs) and not even allow you to prepare a DVD compatible mpeg-2 which you can then burn is some other program. So that further restricts your options, I am sorry to say.

As for cutting your video, let's take it from the beginning. You have your video in the timeline. I presume you have already given it a Project name. If not, go to File Save As, and give it a name (e.g. Mykro.vsp).

Next go to the point in it where you want to make the cut. The scissors icon becomes active and you click on it. A division mark will appear in the video at that point. Click on the second half to highlight it, then delete it. This will leave the first half alone in the timeline. Save this as another project: File > Save As, and this time call it, say, Mykro1.

Now go to File > Open Project, and select the first project Myrko.vsp. Mykro1 will disappear from the timeline, and the original full video will reappear there. Go back to the spot where you made the cut, click the scissors and again a division mark will appear in the video. This time, though, click on the first half to highlight it, then delete it. You will now only have the second half of the video in the timeline. Give it another Project name (File > Save As), say Mykro2.

Now you have three separate projects, one with the full video (uncut), and one each for the first half and the second half.

I've split up the project into two files.. I'm still getting the runtime error.. I'm thinking of cutting my losses and starting over.. Before I do.. Any suggestions first??

Well.. I've Started from scratch.. Redoing my project.. Just entering clips into the story board I'm getting runtime errors here and there.. also I get runtime errors just by trimming the clips too..
