Hi,
I have one big file 12Gb of DVD MPEG2 and I would like to know how to put it into 2 DVD ((8,5GB each). This file was rendered by VideoStudio11 from one DV file converted from VHS tape.

I personally fear that you may have gone overboard with the capture/rendering bitrate. With a VHS source, any bitrate over 4 to 4,500 kbps is an overkill. It'll give you a larger file but no better quality. What is the quality of the current file and the bitrate used?
If you do not want to recapture with more realistic settings, the only thing you can do is to either split the file in the middle using VS or use DVDShrink to make the file smaller.

If you go for the simple cut method, find a spot roughly half way through the file where a cut would be logical. Make the cut. Delete the second half. It would probably be sensible to save this as a project (say, Project A). Save and close the project.
Start a new project (Project B), which will empty the timeline. Drag back in the original 12 GB file (which won't have been affected by what you did in Project A). Find the same spot where you made the previous cut, but this time, delete the first half. Save the project.
Now you can either render a final DVD compliant mpeg-2 of each project (Share > Create Video File > DVD); or you go straight to the burning module (Share > Create Disc) and burn each Project file to separate discs.
The other simple thing you might consider is to have the whole file in the timeline. Make the cut. Highlight the first half and go to Clip > Save Trimmed File. A new icon will appear in the library pane -- note its name. Then highlight the second half of the original file, and do the same. This will create mpeg-2s of each half of your original file which you can burn separately.

Question: How do you make a cut? What would be the process to do that??Ken Berry wrote:If you go for the simple cut method, find a spot roughly half way through the file where a cut would be logical.
