Cut Editing Possible in VS10?

Post by noiddicle »

I have feed from 3 video cameras which I'm recording to three seperate DV decks. I then capture all three DV streams to VS10. All streams have identical sound tracks btw, the joys of having a seperate physical video and audio patch panel in the studio.

I want to be able to during the editing process transition between the three tracks.

So, I guess its possible to place each of the video files in a different overlay track.

My question is, what is the simplest way to be able to switch between them and is it possible to do cuts, crossfades and wipes between them?

I know I can do it by cutting an splicing on the main video line but that would be a nightmare. If I have to do that I'll go back to using the studio editing suite for most of my editing and that feels like a step backwards.

Any advice welcome.

Thanks.

The easiest way - though there are numerous methods of course is outlined here:
Multi Camera Editing

We also had a similar previous thread with some alternative suggestions:
VS & MS: Multi-Camera Editing..

To achieve transitions in the overlay tracks:
VS10 PLUS :Cross-Fade Transition in Video Overlay Tracks

The easiest method is this one:
blplhp wrote:When I want to add transitions between overlay clips, I open a new project file and add the DV_AVI video clips I want to use for the overlays to my "video track" on the timeline. I add the transitions I want, then I save the project file as a .vsp file, I don't render it as an mpeg file in the Share|Create Video Disc step.

Next, I open up my original project file (.vsp), and import the overlay .vsp project file onto the overlay track of the timeline.

The result is an overlay track that has transitions, but still keeps the same quality level with no "generation" loss.

If you wish to combine the multi camera editing with transitions in the overlay tracks, then whilst possible with VideoStudio, it will involve a lot of work. If you are perhaps a Professional / Semi-Professional and are doing this type of thing quite extensively, then you would be better advised to upgrade to MediaStudio Pro 8.

MediaStudio is the bigger brother of VideoStudio with more control plus the ability to insert transitions on its extensive number of overlay tracks.

Thanks a lot for the rapid reply. I'll take a look at your suggestions and see how they work.

I wish. :-)

I do public access TV so I have access to 20 year old TV studios and zero budget. We do it for fun!

Thanks again.
