The only things that I find will play back MF4SE burnt DVD's are my portable DVD player. My pc's CD-DVD drive fails to even recognize MF4SE burnt discs are inserted.
What gives, burnt MF4SE (assumedly same as any MF4 burnt discs) cannot be played back on the user's own pc (and the very one in which MF4' is installed)?
Suppose we have to pay for a codec, another player's software, or maybe its just that Intervideo's MF4 burnt MPEG DVD discs are incapable of play back on user's pc's?
Neither Intervideo's WinDVD5, WMP10 or even MPC players work for MF4' burnt MPEG DVD's.
Looks like I've wasted yet more time and expense trying out software that doesn't tell you what it doesn't do, let alone reasonably what it will do and/or how to make it work.
MF4SE burnt DVD's won't playback...

Pretty sure the rootkit thing's the deal
Thanks for the great link.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think 'my' issue is with ULead and MovieFactory, or is there nobody else finding they cannot playback MF DVD's on their pc's?
No issues playing MF DVD's on my standalone players, just my 'Chrony' VAIO.
'My' Sony VAIO's burner has always given me grief and heartburn.
Just wish I could get rid of the burner rootkit I've always known was there.
Think I even tried rootkitrevealer and although it listed many, I think I was stopped at doing anything, mostly because I don't know which rootkit is causing the the burning issues, that and even if I did figure that out, I'm pretty sure I'm incapable of safely deleting it from 'my' registry.
Any link to where I could resolve those issues, would really be appreciated.
As for the DVD's themselves being the issue, I don't think so, especially since they playback fine on my standalones, but to get them to play on 'my' pc, I'll try the 4x speed, etc.
w-thanks

Check to see if there is any new firmware for your DVD burner.
A few months ago a foreign object found its way into my DVD Burner and so I had to replace it. Before this I had no problems with my DVD discs.
I went along to a famous nationwide High Street store and purchased a replacement DVD Burner same make as the old one bought the model was slightly newer. Same 16X dual layer specifications as the old one.
The first few discs I burned did not work correctly. Before taking it back in case it was faulty I checked the manufacturers website and lo and behold there was some updated firmware for the brand new DVD Burner.
After installing the new firmware all of my problems went away and I haven't wasted a DVD disc since.
Firmware is the software that resides inside the DVD Burner itself so that it knows how to communicate with the PC. It is like the BIOS of a computer.

I'd replace the burner, but...
..even if I replace the burner, I'm guessing that 'my' Chrony VAIO would bunk it just as it does the current one.
Thanks again for the replies.
Since buying the VAIO in 2004, many times I've checked for updates and nothing for my Pioneer DVD-RW DVD-K12D.
But if there's a chance I can somehow unbunk 'my' VAIO and get a new burner installed, I'd gladly go for it.
Oh ya, the Sony rootkit link I noticed was/is the one for their music cd's they tried sticking everybody with. I recall checking and I wasn't infected, nor have I ever autorun any discs ever since.
Still not sure if anyone can playback MF4 burnt DVD's on their pc's as my such discs aren't even detected in my onboard players (Intervideo WinDVD5, WMP10 and WPC).
Depending on the answer to that unanswered question, if answered, it'd be a great deal of help in maybe pointing me in the right direction (another onboard player, another onboard burner, etc.).
w-thanks

Apparrently answered?
..as by your reply, seems like MF4SE DVD's should be playable on my XPH/SP2 OEM RW'r, but no, even explorer doesn't detect MF4 burnt DVD's.
GSpot's rendering of files oddly doesn't list any audio (in the rendered dialog box), re: the LPCM I'm using.
Maybe I can/need to try formatting AC3 audio, but all I read indicates LPCM is default for SP/GQ/HQ and MPEG audio layer 2 for LP, that and/or dropping capture size down to 640x280.
The more I get into this vid capturing & DVD burning thing, the more it seems I need to keeping trying something else, but options are just about all used up.
As for PowerDVD, the version I once used (still have the CD-ROM) had as many issues my WinDVD5 player, well, any players I use, WMP and even MPC too. But I suppose I can try it, but I think with WinDVD and the others installed, adding PDVD might well cause new issues?
But still, has anyone operating XPH/SP2 succeeded in play'g DVD burnt by MF4SE and/or MF4 burnt DVD's???
If the prob's not my OEM's RW'r or OS, then I grant the need to work on another player, assuming I don't see joy in using AC3 audio, dropping down to 640x280 and/or some other tweak.
Again, w-thanks

If you cannot use windows explorer to browse the contents of the disc, then changing the audio type and resolution probably won't help (btw, 640x280 wouldn't work on a DVD-VIDEO disc). PowerDVD Might not help either (if the disc isn't being recognized at all).
What type of discs are you burning, and what type of other burning software do you have installed? And do you have packet-writing software loaded (the kind that allows you to drag-and-drop to disc like it was a hard drive)
I have heard of users that burn a disc, and then cannot read that disc in the burner they just used (while it is still playable by a dvd player). I remember that was with a DVD+RW disc (was a while ago), but it did not have anything to do with MF4, it was more a burning to disc issue.

George

Can anyone's pc play MF4 DVD's?
Just finished a 5 hr burning session of The African Queen which included original trailer w/movie splt into two chapters and no menu (captured off VHS as MPG 3.1 GB). MF4's imported it and converted/formatted it to mpeg2/LPCM and burnt as SP/mpeg2/AC3.
Didn't really expect AC3 to make a diff and true enough, still the MF4 DVD fails playback on pc.
Same sizes of MF4 burns w/LPCM take about 3 hrs even though I run a pentium 4 XPH/SP2 OS and USB the files to and from ext. HD.
Discs used are TDK-R 4.7GB (1-16X) w/4X burn speed.
Had Drag'nDrop CD+DVD and DVgate Plus V1.3 (uninstalled these but still same RW'r issue). Aware of potential DnD's CD issue.
The only things I more or less (mostly less) run are MSWMM, DVDDecrypter and MF4.
Fairly certain prob is w/'my' onboard RW'r, but can anyone pc play MF4 DVD's?
w-thanks again
