VideoStudio 11+ not capturing

Post by midor »

I'm using a D-Link DUB-AV300 (USB) capture device and when I click on Capture Video I get the message "Cannot start the capture graph". I can see and hear the video in the preview pane but cannot capture it. What can I do?

I take it you are attempting to transfer footage from your camcorder with this device. Does your camcorder have an IEEE1394 (firewire) output, if so that is the preferred method of transfer.

Your capture device gets good reviews and is one of several that has an on-board chip to take the pain out of capturing from an analogue camera or VCR. But I believe it is also one that requires you to use the capture software which came with it, in this case WinDVD Creator. A number of hardware manufacturers like D-Link tweak software from another manufacturer to make it work with their hardware. But unfortunately they won't give out the secret of the tweaking so other software manufacturers like Ulead can adjust their programs accordingly.

Now the only problem is that the WinDVD Creator which comes with the device is a little old these days, and also crippled. But apparently it captures well. So you simply capture with it and then open the captured files in VS for editing.

And if you are worrying that you cannot capture and edit with the one program, then don't. A lot of us here use a variety of programs for different parts of a project. If I am capturing digital video, for instance, I usually use WinDV to capture in DV format (different program to WinDVD!), VS for editing, CanopusFX or Adorage for transitions, Cool 3d or Xara 3D for titles, Nero Wave Editor for audio, SonicFire Pro for tailored music, and then Movie Factory 6 or DVD Workshop 2 to author and burn. And that is absolutely normal and standard practice for many of us here...

But if you are capturing from a digital video camera, then as Steve says, if it is a mini DV model, then you have to use Firewire.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm actually capturing from a VCR. The DUB-AV300 comes bundled with WinDVD Creator 2 which doesn't work at all with the device. D-Link's answer was to download and use version 3, which also has it's problems. I'll keep persisting, or change capture devices.

I never faced any capture pb with UVS10+, except when I tried to transfer a DV tape (recorded on a Standard Definition JVC-DVP7e camcorder) from my High Def Sony HDR-HC1.

In that case, it has always been the mess... I tried to follow the user's guide procedures, but finally I decided to capture with my other video editing software, and to switch to UVS after the capture is done.
