Capturing

Post by rdsatkaycee »

Using Win XP, 2.4, Hauppauge USBII
When I try to capture, I get an error "Failed to connect to driver: Hauppauge Win TV USB2 Encoder"
Anybody got any ideas why this won't work?

For version 3/3.5 there is a patch that allows you to ue the USB2-PVR. I upgraded to version 4 and it is simply a sold NO-GO. Tech support was not helpful - just answered the part of my question dealing with registratation and igored the rest. In my book, they deserve a big fat "F" for customer service!!

I have been playing around with the version 3.0 .ini files and the hauppaugecap.dll (relocating it to the version 4.0 directory).

Does the patch for version 3 work to capture directly from the device? Or is it better to use the WinTV program to capture and just use DMF to do the DVD creation part?

The patched version works very well and if you do direct creations (VCR to DVD), you will get a slightly better quality using ULEAD to accomplish the transfer/rendeer/write activities rather than using WINTV and then having ULEAD render the MPEG that was generated -- Especially true if the WINTV settings are set too high. Or that has been my experience and observations so far.

Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try.... as soon as I get the stupid thing to work. Downloaded Hauppauge's new drivers, uninstalled the old ones, and now it won't find the new ones... *sigh*

Hi,

The file DVDMFCap.ini located in the config files under <All Users>
directs the plugins.
Wherever those dll's are maybe you can copy your device's dll
also to the same directory.
Then add the statement in the config file like below.

Enabling showing of dropped frames is also in that file.

[CAPTURE_PLUGIN]
CapturePluginPath1=VfwUleadMpegCap.dll
CapturePluginPath2=dswUleadMpegCap.dll
CapturePluginPath3=

Hope this helps,

MD

Already did that.... you also need to copy the .dll and the HaupaggueCap.ini and a coulpe of other things to make it look like the modifications accomplished by Ver3.0 patch. It didn't work and I tried a variety of different configuration options. At each instance, internally, the configuration is not "picked up".

MF IV. The Capturing portion sure sounds good if they ever get it working for Hauppauge.
