Transitions between clips in the overlay track?

Post by seamus48 »

Hi all,

Is it possible to apply transitions such as cross-fade between clips in the overlay track?

Essentially, I am making a short film using underwater footage shot in both 16:9 and 4:3. To change the 4:3 clips to widescreen I have been dragging them to the overlay track, inserting 'colour' in the regular timeline to create the required seperation, then clicking 'fit to screen' and keep aspect ratio' on the overlay clips which seems to work ok.

I want to cross fade between the clips. Can I do that with VS10+ or VS11+ or am I asking too much ??

Yes and No.
You cannot apply transitions in the overlay track but there is a workaround.
You have to place the clips involved in a separate VideoStudio project on the video track and then apply your transitions as normal.
Save that as a VideoStudio project file.
Return to your original project and now add that VideoStudio project file in the same way as a rendered video (to the overlay track).

Sorry mate, I am not sure I follow that entirely.....

I thought I could only change the clips from 4:3 to 16:9 in the overlay track.... perhaps you could talk me through it in a little more detail... it would be appreciated!
