Problem adding chapters with VS11+

Post by DLA »

Hi,

I have a problem with VS11+. In the burning module, I cannot add chapters. I am using the suggested workflow where I edit my project then I create a MPEG-2 video file using the MPEG optimizer setting so only transitions are re-rendered. My clips are from my DVDcam Hitachi DZ-GX5020A. I am not at home right now having all the details but my video propreties should be that.

File size 1.3 GB
edit file format: MPEG files
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 5733 kbps)
Dolby Digital 48000 Hz 2/0 192 kbps

To go the the burn module, I create a new project (empty) the I select create disc. I then add the MPEG file. I then see the thumbnail in the bottom timeline. With the clip selected, I cannot play it. All the controls of the preview pane are grayed out. If I do Add/Edit Chapter..., same thing, I don't have control of the preview pane and no jog bar. Trying to to Auto add chapters will crash the application.

My system is

Windows XP SP2 Media Center Edition 2005
HP Pavilion Media Center a1510n
Athlon 64 x2 3800+ 2.0 GHz
Chipset GeForce 6150 LE
Motherboard Asus A8N-LA
2 Gig DDR RAM PC-3200
200 GB SATA HD + 320 GB USB2 External

I know some of you resolved this problem by installing the latest DirectX. I have DirectX9c installed and I think DirectX10 is for Vista only.

I also have a laptop at work that present the same problem. It is a Dell D600 with Pentium M 1.6 GHz 512 MB ram Windows XP Pro SP2.

Thanks

But did you try to install it anyway? I already had DirectX 9.0c installed back when I had the problems. After the install it still says 9.0c, but it must have done something as it worked thereafter.

When I tried to re-install 9.0c using the redistributable package from Microsoft, I immediately got a message saying the component was now ready to be used. But the Add chapter was still not working after that but I did not rebooted in between. I will try again tonight.

I think I fixed my problem. On my laptop, I used the directx_feb2007_redist.exe from Microsoft and it fixed the problem. I will try at home tonight. I previously tried to update using directx_9c_redist.exe and I was still having the problem.
