Audio level adjustment.

Post by Rollason »

I am getting no response from changes in elastic banding in timeline audio clips.
Is there some preference that I have to set to activate changes in the audio output when I swing the black centre line up or down. I also don't appear to have blending of two audio tracks when these are one above the other. I believe this should be so.
Any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks.

Do it the easy way, export your sound to a WAV file, do what you want to do with Audacity - FREE Audio Editor
Then replace the existing sound track with the modified one.

Audio and elastic banding.

Post by Rollason »

Many thanks for your reply, sorry that I didn't get back sooner. I will try your suggestion but I would still like to use the normal audio elastic banding and the possibility of dubbing into the programme as is.
I look forward to your reply.

You can't just move the line, you have to create a handle where you want to move it by clicking on it first. You can see a handle as a little rectangle.

Just a note - if you create a "node" and move it significantly above r below the audio clip itself, it just disappears. Use {Shift} before and during your node creation/moving, so you can see what's happening as a percentage...

Varying audio by rubber banding.
Thank you for your reply and I know it is some time since you replied to my original question, ie,Volume changing using rubber banding.
I appreciate what you suggested and this is the usual method but it's not working for me with Media Pro 7. hence my question.
I have still had no success and gave up in exasperation. I am now trying again with no more success. I have tried all the suggestions in the manual and have looked at the FAQ's. I am getting audio fine. No trouble at all, but I'm totally unable to alter volume.
I can, of course, cut out sound altogether on the check box of the audio line.
Would somebody, anybody, please come up with some suggestion that might help. I tried Audacity but trying to put sound back in with lip sync. is not a goer.

The procedure for rubber banding is the same in MediaStudio as it is for VideoStudio. Please view this link regarding the creation of nodes etc.

Audio level adjustment.

Post by Rollason »

Thanks very much for this information. Video Studio has an Audio toolbar which is not available on my version of Media Studio Pro 7. I'm unable to find any options or preferences applicable that will produce audio controls. There appear to be no audio controls similar to Video Studio in Media Studio. Should there be an Audio Toolbar in Media Studio?
If I use Auto Crossfade I get the expected rectangular boxes on the two audio timelines and the upper audio baseline drops down to zero and rises from zero on the lower timeline. The audio level doesn't vary though, the audio remaining constant at the same level on the bottom timeline until it reaches the end of the clip and then changes immediately to the upper timeline. The two timelines don't mix at all.
I am going to uninstall and reinstall Pro 7 but I'm not optimistic as I've done this a couple of times before.
Would there be any point in upgrading whilst there's still a chance to do so?

i would upgrade, provided you can find a cheap enough version of MSP8. Remember it is likely to be the final version, I doubt there will be further versions, or even updates for the current version.
But I found 8 easier to use and a bit more intuitive. Horses for courses really, maybe you should try the free trial version and see if the audio problem is gone. It does sound like a weird problem, like there's something wrong with the program somewhere. I assume you've tried different video/audio file formats. It could be some weird conflict with your sound driver, maybe try updating that first?

Hi
You may be expecting too much from rubber-banding. I find you have to be extreme and take the band handles to the very top or bottom to get appreciable results.

Steve's method of exporting to Audacity or another audio package is best (and you can do other effects to clean it up/ make it more punchy at the same time). I find the following is easy:

1. Split the audio from the video, but leave the original audio track exactly in position (and make sure you have set your track display to wave form).

2. Import your modified track directly under the original - line up, using the wave form as a guide but use the left or right arrow keys on your keyboard for delicate adjustments. Really, it's best if you can do this alignment in the first clip position, at the extreme left of the track (position 00:00:00:00), then you can use the border as a but to push both the video and audio track against in order to make sure both are aligned.

3. After you're satisfied, delete the original.

4. Click on the modified audio clip and use the arrow (up) key on your keyboard to move it up into place (don't use your mouse as it your hand can drift).

5. Group audio and video tracks together.

This method works everytime for me and takes a matter of seconds to do (and as people using this board will know, if anyone's going to have a problem, it's me, so it must work!)

I hope this helps.
Thanks & regards.

Thank you both for your comments. I'll give Audacity another try and see where I get. I would add further that I tried changing the audio baseline from top to bottom but there was no perceptable change in volume.
It seems a pity to have to dump Pro 7, it wasn't cheap as you know and it may be that, after the present Pro 8, Media Pro won't be replaced. I don't know if Corel, having taken it over, will bother with another editing programme. It seems odd to have taken it over and then to drop it. Maybe they have something else in mind with which Media Pro would have been in contention.
Incidentally, the possibility of getting a Pro 8 upgrade more cheaply was mentioned. Can you expand on that? I haven't seen it about anywhere and from your comments, that it's more intuitive, I would consider giving it a try.
Any advice on that score would be appreciated.
Once again, many thanks for your help. Roy.

Audio level adjustment.

Post by Rollason »

I've received no reply to my previous posting as yet so I've down loaded the trial version of MSP 8. The audio is fine using this programme so it appears that there should be no trouble with 7. Very strange!
Mention was made of the possibility of a reduced price version on 8.
Would anybody care to comment on that?
As it seems to work OK I'm seriously considering upgrading.
Many thanks for your help and comments,
Roy.
