I just purchased a new Sony FX7 cam corder. Will Video Editor 8 handle the new m2t format? Also if I put the camera in standard mode what is the output extension is it still going to be in AVI format or the new m2t format?

See my other post in topic "MSP v.8 with Canon HV20?" describing how MSpro8 works w/ HDV capture/editing.
It's OK but not ideal, missing most notably auto scene-splitting (it doesn't capture/edit M2T, but converts automatically to metadata-less MPG2.) It does convert back to M2T ok to record back to the camera, but missing the shot/time metadata of course.
When you switch the camera to down-convert to SD DV over firewire, it captures/edits just like regular DV, as an AVI file etc, all the DV-mode functions work. MSpro/the PC can't tell it's anything but a DV camcorder.

Hi Clark,
Interested to see you have bought a Sony HDR FX7. How are you getting on with it? Does it do everything it says on the box?
I bought one a couple of months ago, but had to return it because of problems with loss of certain screen views. I had a replacement, but had problems with that too. When I pressed Assign button 4 the LCD went off and the viewfinder came on. After much fiddling by trial and error I managed to get the LCD back on again, but decided to return it for a refund. Now waiting for new stock to come into supplier before trying to buy again.
Cheers, Maurice
