Win DVD 4 Does Not Play

My Win DVD 4 is out of warranty so the company is of no help. The player is very erratic when I try to play a DVD; the best I can do is o try to get it started, then it stops. I go to a specific chapter on the dvd and it plays for 15 seconds and then reverts to scene select.
