b]I have Movie Factory Version 4.04. I have 20GB of free space on my hard drive. The computer is a Dell (I know!) Latitude D505.
The first and most fustrating thing is about 85% thru rendering (about 3 hours time) the application crashes and I have to start the whole rendering/burning process over. The second or third time it works, and the DVD is burned from a series of video clips that I edited and were taken with a Sony Mini Cassette video camera. Why is this???
Second, when someone such as myself doesn't really know what format/quality settings to use, and with so many options to choose from, what do I use? I am using blank DVD+R disks and just want to be able to put a 1 hour long (finished) movie together, maybe do a little editing and trimming and then render it to the disk.
I wrote an email to Ulead Support asking what error code 80070057 means, (I get this alot) and explaned the above as well. This is my email to ULEAD support and the response I got:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question/Problem: First, editing and adding video works well...no problem there. Then when I try and render the edited material to a image file or straight to disk, SOMETIMES I get the
error code 80070057 and have to reboot the computer. SOMETIMES the application just locks up the computer, and I have to reboot. SOMETIMES the edited movie renders OK, with no problems. Seeing that it takes almost 4 hours of computing time to render a 1 hour long movie, it is a real pain in the a__ to get to 86% of completion only to have to start over. I have UPDATED my software from your web site, with no help. I purposely keep my hard drive clean and free of clutter, and defrag before I start editing a new video. It took me a long time to get the 3.52GB movie to render to disk, on a hard drive that had 20GB of free space. So, please advise me on what the problem is with the software or the application. I will say that if I edit videos that are around 20 minutes in length to disk or image file, I have no problems.

Dear Customer,
Please export the video clip first using the following steps:
1. At the "Add/Edit Media" step of MovieFactory, highlight all the video clips at the storyboard/title list.
2. Click on the "Export Movie" button on the left side or press "Alt+K" on your keyboard.
3. Use the DVD format/quality settings that you want to use for your project.
4. Export the video clip into your hard drive.
5. Exit MovieFactory and re-launch the program (restarting is suggested).
6. Import the saved video clips into a new project and continue it from there.
7. Make sure to enable "Do not convert compliant MPEG files" from the "Project Settings" (press "Alt+J" on your keyboard to go there).
8. Finish the project.
Please download this burning engine update. Unzip this file inside this folder: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems\DVD"
ftp://userdl:guest@ftpph.ulead.com/CARLO/3619281.zip
or (if the first is unavailable)
ftp://ts4user:testfile@private.ulead.co ... 619281.zip
If asked to overwrite files, select "Yes to All" to replace everything. Try burning/copying a DVD and email me again for the results. Please note that this is a newer burning engine from MovieFactory 4.01. Since the burning engine are shared components by all Ulead software, this should work with your MF3se.
Thank you and have a nice day!

Thanks to all, and does anyone know of another Video Editing software product that is easier and less trouble to use. Please don't recommend Nero, or Windows Movie Maker, as they also seem to have various problems, being much to complicated to make format/quality settings selections. The editing part using Ulead works well, but the rendering part does not...

Hi
I have a series of questions that might need to be consider regarding ur problem:
1. Do you have a high-end pc or at least ur above the minimum requirements of the software.
2. Have u tried a clean re-installation of the software (this usually solves most of the problems).
3. If other applications are also encountering errors with your system, maybe you should consider installing a fresh os. (consider this as ur last option - requires a lot of work and time but its worh it)
4. Also make sure that a lot of resources are available before u render ur video. Try closing applications that are not necessarily needed.
