LAME ACM MP3 codec error

Post by Former »

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate and Video Studio 10 with the Vista Patch. However, when I start the video editing studio it comes up with an error involving the "LAME ACM MP3 Audio Codec."

If anyone has suggestions, please let me know.

It's a common problem. Successive versions of VS have had problems with some mp3 codecs, and the LameMP3 codec seems to be a common factor.

Use an audio editor and convert your audio to .wav and it should be OK.

FYI - Although LAME has a good reputation for making high audio-quality (good sounding) MP3s, LAME is an unauthorized and unlicensed MP3 encoder. I'm sure the developers are trying, but the files it creates may not be fully MP3 compliant. (MP3 uses patented technology, and the people distributing the LAME encoder are NOT paying their MP3 royalities.)

I have looked for a ligitimate MP3 codec, but I can't find similar a stand-alone "plug-in" codec... The only licensed MP3 encoders I've found are part of a complete application.

Just a note, this is not an error that occurs when I try to important a specific MP3 file. The error occurs when I start VS 10.
