Unable to Switch to Capture
I have what may be a very basic question. I have the older Video Studio 6SE DVD. I am using an analog S-video input through ATI input. Ulead worked fine the last time I used it. I now can not switch to the Capture Mode. I get an error message: "Check if the capture driver is working". I don't know what to check, whose drivers they are, where to find them, etc. The audio gets into the computer, but video does not. I recently installed a webcam; could that have taken priority over the capture drivers for Ulead? I would appreciate any help troubleshooting this problem. Thanks
Drivers are supplied but the hardware manufacturer*. You should be able to download the driver from the ATI web site.
If you can't get Video Studio to capture, you might try using the ATI capture software, if you still have it or if you can download it.
Here's a long-shot: I was getting a weird "driver error" with my Hauppauge capture card. And I was getting an error when I tried to re-install the driver & software. It turned-out that the PCI card had come partially-loose in the card-slot. Re-seating the capture card solved the "driver problem".
* A driver is something like an interpreter between the hardware and the software/operating system. Only the hardware manufacturer knows how to communicate with the hardware-side. Hopefully, the software/application manufacturer knows how to talk to the software-side of the driver.
But, I have the impression that the software-to-driver interface is not well defined for video capture drivers. Some capture-software and capture-hardware just doesn't work well together. There are solid driver standards (from Microsoft) for common computer peripherals like printers... Any word processor will work with any printer as long as you have a standard Windows driver for the printer.
