Here goes.
Pat Thiele born and raised in Australia up till the age of 24 when I decided on a new carrier path in pre-hospital care. I was captain of one of Queensland's largest Surf Life Saving Clubs, North Burleigh, and worked for the then South East Queensland Electricity board (now Energex). I was working many many long hours voluntary with Queensland Ambulance hoping to get get hired on. When I was not, and the person who was, was stuck under me, I was quite annoyed (Her Daddy was on the board and she needed a job). A fellow medic suggested I head to Nth America where it all happens and you can get training far beyond anything in Australia.
I was able to secure a working permit for Canada for 12 months and proceeded to cross that country working and volunteering at any Ambulance or Fire Company that would allow me. Well they all did cause when you're in dropping off a patient at the ER with a bloke with an Aussie accent and Aussie Ambulance uniform well all the nurses would come out (including the males in some towns).
I decided to go for a drive down the California coast one day and arrived in LA where I ran into a bunch of guys who played Rugby in Huntington Beach. I was going to stay for a week or 2 before heading back to my job in Calgary but after an afternoon of beers at Blackie's bar in Newport Beach watching the thong roller skaters I was staying put. For a little while longer anyway.
Not long after I met my wife (Green Card) Susan who worked for the rodent (Mickey Mouse) in Anaheim. I got a job with a small local telephone PBX company which is where I was introduced to computers. I still remember when the 486DX was released and how fast it was. The other day I found the receipt for my first PC and it was the 486 with 15 inch monitor (upgrade cause every one had only 14's) and 8 meg of RAM (another upgrade as everyone was still at 4) all for $3200. Wow what I could buy now. I taught myself computer hardware and started building PC's for Voice Mail systems to save my company money of pre-built systems. I remember News Groups and bulletin boards which proceeded the internet.
Fast forward to now and I moved to Dallas Texas in 1998 to take a job with NEC as a senior Telecommunications Engineer. Playing with PBX's routers, and all sorts of stuff nowadays.
A few years a go (7 to be exact) my eldest son graduated Pre-School and in the ceremony on a big screen there was a slide show of pictures taken through out the year of the kids all set to music. I was so moved by this I decided I wanted to try this too.
So the first Christmas Aussie Texas DVD was attempted. I started with Pinnicle and was so frustrated with the crashes and other problems I almost gave up then. A friend at work mentioned VS8 by ULEAD that he was using and having a lot of luck with. I found that the current release VS9 was out and got stuck into it.
I have not looked back. My Christmas DVD's are demanded now each year from family and friends across the world. I also put together other projects as thanks to people such as the one I did for the Super Bowl when I was lucky enough to be invited this year.
I really enjoy using VS9, 11.5, X2, X3 and now really love VSX4. Can't wait to try some animation and also try and offer back help to others as I have received and learnt so much from this forum
