Welcome to the forums Atom,

Where to start...
Well we know that you have a camcorder that records to mini-DVD, and you want to edit the video. What we don't know is what software you have on your PC for editing. If you're using VideoStudio, then this is the web board that will provide help for you.

You can read through the many tutorials and articles found in our Forum Tutorials section. Steve wrote a good detailed article called From Camcorder to DVD using VideoStudio, which has a wealth of information in it.

If you have questions with a specific program, like VideoStudio for example, just post it in the appropriate forum, and someone will reply as soon as possible.

We're looking forward to your participation..

New User and Podcaster

Post by Steve Jones »

To be sure my account isn't removed, I'm introducing myself this time :)

I'm Steve Jones, and I run a database user site www.sqlservercentral.com. About two years ago I started a daily podcast of my editorial and started using Video Studio 10. I write a daily piece on computers, technology, databases, or whatever strikes my fancy, and I found this software to work well at a great price. Especially since it was one of the few supporitn AVCHD early on.

Recently my laptop died and I had to move to a new machine, and upgraded to X2. So far I like some of the improvements, and I've enjoyed using the software in my work as well as making some videos for kids using vacation footage.

Greetings,

My name is Larry and I'm one of three partners in a small woodworking tool company. We want to produce a few short web based videos on traditional trade practices that can greatly simplify hand tool woodworking because most woodworkers out there are self-taught and lack basic skills and confidence. We are using VideoStudio X2 and have a Canon Vixia camera using AVCHD format. I'm kinda in over my head with all this digital video stuff and will need some guidance to overcome a lack of basic skills and confidence for someone self-taught in this stuff.

New to board, using VS X2

Post by greatphotos »

I have used the Ulead video product since the original Ulead version. I have also used other Corel graphics products.

I have worked in computer support almost 30 years and was a programmer before that.

I joined this group as my support cases at Corel are not getting any response, just a run around. The members here seem very knowledgeable.

I have owned just about every video editor out there but have stuck with Video Studio. One of it's likeable features is automatic scaling of the window and ability to use various video file formats in the same project I am currently using VS9 and VS X2. Version 9 is stable, X2 not so good.

I am working on my second retirement having retired several years ago (I am now 57).

I use Video Studio to make custom videos as one of my hobbies is photography and I do the occasional wedding using the video capabilities in my SLR camera.

I don't find X2 unstable at all. In fact, I think it is more stable than v10 (my last version before X2 - don't remember about v9). Please go to the VS forum and tell us your problems and we'll see if we can sort it out. Please be sure to read the Read This Before Posting thread.

Hello, VideoStudio web board!!!

Post by TerryHall »

My name is Terry Hall, I¡¦m 52, and I live just outside of Roanoke, Virginia. I earn a living by managing inventory for a group of auto parts stores in the Mid-Atlantic US.

I¡¦ve been fooling around with sound and images since junior high school, when my best friend and I recorded our first ¡§album¡¨ by bouncing tracks from one cassette deck to another. We sold one copy. When I was 14, I got a super-8 camera and projector for Christmas. The next few years were spent making home movies, although not of the usual vacation-and-holiday variety. We did sci-fi adventures, clay animation, fantasy ¡§epics,¡¨ and anti-smoking ¡§documentaries.¡¨ Editing was done with splicing tape, and soundtracks were recorded onto cassette and played back along with projection. Not the best technology for synchronization, but it was fun with the equipment at hand. I still have the original films and tapes, and hope to have them converted to digital.

I went to college and work, and put this foolishness aside for a while. In the eighties, my interests re-surfaced with the advent of midi, personal computers, and camcorders. I bought an Amiga 1000, following by a 3000, and fooled around with animation, image processing, and midi sequencing. I bought an 8mm camcorder and an SLR, and enjoyed going on outdoor nature shoots and doing odd things like filming the patterns in soap bubbles. However, my main interest during this period was with audio recording, and I¡¦ve continued that into the present, using Cakewalk Sonar with a variety of synths, samplers, microphones, etc.

I recently built a new PC, and I bought a point-and-shoot digital camera which takes SD video. I discovered through reading on the web that non-linear video editing on personal computers exists, and I downloaded the Windows Live Movie Maker. However, it didn¡¦t take long to outgrow it, and I starting looking for something more powerful.

I literally stumbled on Corel Video Studio Pro X2 in a Sunday paper sale ad. I read some reviews online, downloaded the trial, downloaded the trial of a well-known competitor, compared, and settled on VS Pro X2. I¡¦ve had it a week, and so far I¡¦ve edited one 4-minute short of my wife and I dancing, with titles, transition, the original dance music synced, and credits. I even burned a DVD and gave it to our dance instructor.

I hope to use the product to produce slide shows and shorts for family and friends, to edit my old 8mm film and video footage (after capture to digital, of course), produce video shorts and lyric backgrounds for church, and whatever else unfolds.

My name is Roy. I'm a retired Highway Maintenance foreman for the D.O.T in Southcentral Alaska.

I'm completely new to photo editing and hope to learn from other members. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions.

Hi,

My name is Bart and I have been dabbling in video editing for several years now. Nothing high tech...family videos, soccer videos of the kids, etc...all using consumer stuff (Nero, Adobe Elements, photoshow, and others).

I bought VS Pro x2 in March 2009 because it looked like it had some really neat capabilities.

Reading a couple of the initial posts in this forum...it is very interesting to me that some of you have been so loyal to this line of software. I jump around...as a matter of fact, I recently posted an issue I had today with the software and i was on the verge of just downloading and trying a new brand, but decided to see if help was out there first.

Good editing to all of you!

Greetings, all. I've been using Paint Shop Pro since shareware version 3.x. I'm pretty comfortable with PSP after all these years but there is always more to learn and maybe I can contribute a little knowledge here also.

I found these forums while looking to answer some questions about VideoStudio Pro X2 which I'm using to assemble some digitized old 8mm home movies. The forum's been a great resource already.

Another new guy that is far from that. Username is real, no need to go further with that. Have been using Paint Shop since PS-5 if I recall correctly, long before Corel became involved with it. Went to PSPP X3 this past week, stepping up from X2 Ultimate. Added Video Studio X3 while I was at it. Currently use PSPP to edit and 'play' with photos created on a Canon S5 IS with some fantastic adapter lenses (which I think is a great camera - though not an SLR, but then I have been there and done that too). Previously used PSP in support of making Flight Simulation scenery texture files, before digital photography was as good as it is today.

Live northwest of Chicago, am retired with 'ticker' problems. This restricts my photo ventures but has opened new ones. Though I love all types of photography, macro and garden photography has climbed to the top of interest.

Spent most of my life in electronics, primarily computers, from Minuteman Missiles in the 60's through to today's PC's and micro-computers. Over 50 years in electronics, in all.

Looking forward to using X3 with all of its' capabilities. Still going through a short (I hope) learning curve of the new features. Then, I'll dig into VideoStudio.

Hopefully I will be able to help others on the forum, and hopefully I will find some answers to problems I run into (or create), here on the forum.

Hello everybody,

My name is Balage, and I'm joining you from Budapest, Hungary. During the last 20 years I've been working mostly as a journalist for various IT magazines (PC World, to name one).

I met CorelDRAW when it was v1.2 on Windows 3.0 and used it ever since for many projects (including the questionnaires for the last National Census in 2000-2001 of which I'm most proud of). I co-authored 3 books on CorelDRAW, one of them was the best selling book on CorelDRAW 5 for years in the mid 90's. I was also a speaker on conferences, presenting the features of CorelDRAW, Corel PHOTO-PAINT, and Paint Shop Pro Photo.

Clearly, I was a huge fan of both Corel and its products. Well, not anymore. I stopped using CorelDRAW a couple of years ago, and now PaintShop Photo Pro X3 is another huge disappointment for me.

The reason I registered is because PSPP still has a bug (since X2!) that can crash it within seconds, and though I hardly believe they don't know about it, or couldn't fix it in almost 3 years, maybe if I share the details here, Corel listens and finally fix it.

Baldage..... Are you by chance using Vista? If so, I might be able to answer your problem. I ran into the same thing with X3 and it is Vista and its' stupid security that causes the problem.
