Hey, I'm new here.

My name is Chris and I'm from Oregon.

I'm using Corel VS X2 Pro with my Canon HG-21.

This is my first camcorder, so I'm a complete video noob!

New "Kid" On The Block

Post by Keith Orth »

My name is Keith Orth and I live with my bride of 17 years in Oklahoma City, OK, USA. I claim to be the new "Kid" on the block because at 60, no one else will call me a "kid".

I am new to video editing. In the past I have put together slideshow CDs of our cruises and our three Granddaughters. We have one who just turned 6 and a set of identical twins who are 10. We purchased a JVC MG-330 and the first time we really used it was on our cruise last April. I purchased Corel VS Pro X2 in part because not all software seems to like the JVC ".MOD" files. I am not finding it very user friendly and the printed book that came with it was written, in my opinion, for someone who does not live in my dimension. Before I started putting the cruise project together, I first did an 18 minute DVD of our youngest Granddaughter in the swimming pool and some clowning around in the yard. The project got done but not without some frustration along the way. The bottom line was that I was satisfied, but not terribly proud of the results. I did feel confident that I was capable of putting the cruise DVD together though. I didn't have a clue as to how far over my head I was. After about 40 hours of arranging, rearranging, adding titles, and puting in audio, I thought the end was in sight. First it wouldn't burn and now, when trying to render, it "Cannot Read Audio". Oh well, nothing good comes easily. I will be checking the forums to see if I can figure out what I have done wrong.

A little about us.......My bride is an investigator for the Okalhoma Bar Association and is WAY too busy. I spent 22 years in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1989. Shortly thereafter I went to work for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as an electronics technician. A couple years ago I left the real work to the younger folks and became an instructor at the FAA Academy teaching Instrument Landing System equipment maintenance.

We spend our time working, being with our Granddaughters whenever possible (they all live within 20 minutes of our home), keeping up our home (always a project that needs to be attended to), and twice a year we treat ourselves to a 7 day cruise, usually in the Caribbean.

I look forward to learning from all the experts who take their valuable time to respond to people like me in the various forums. Thank You, in advance!!

Keith

Welcome to the Web Board.
MOD files are often troublesome to edit and work with. You might find that converting them to MPEG2 will make life easier - here is a FREE and reasonably quick converter:

Hello, I'm Val from Romania, 42 years old. Found this forum when I was searching some informations about Corel DVD MovieFactory 7. I work at a local TV station. My job is to write news and other stuff, but I'm also interested in video editing, dvd authoring, special effects, etc. Currently using Edius 5 and Corel DVD MovieFactory. I find this forum very useful, so I joined, and I'm sure it will be a great help for me. :)

First and foremost - Thanks Steve! I've been antsy waiting for the confirmation email to be part of this group.

I'm from York, Pa. and a virgin to video software. I was turned on to VS from a friend, and have to say, with my limited experience and knowledge haven't regretted the purchase.
I have more questions then answers, so please bear with me. So far, I have been able to find answers to the majority of my questions, but there is some terminolgy and (what I believe) is basic edit procedures I may ask assistance for.

So, for now, back to the search button............
