About me

Post by tonycourtuk »

Hi. I received an email saying I should post something on here so here goes...

My name is Tony. I'm 31, married, and expecting my first child any day now. I only started video editing in 2006. Started off with the old freebie, windows movie maker, on XP. Wanted something that was better so opted for videostudio 11. It was this that gave me the bug. Am now hoping to start my own business doing wedding videgraphy. Have just set up my website and looking forward to it taking off.

Now using pro x2. Love it. Just wish you could personalise the menus a bit more and I'd be chuffed to bits with it.

Hello everybody.
My name is Bob Dadds. I got interested in video whilst in Italy working as an Inspection Engineer working on high pressure vessels for refineries.
It was useful to keep the American client updated with the status of constrution. My first camera was Sony Hi8 and my editing was carried out using two Sony Hi8 VCRs and an Amiga.

Since then after a number of cameras I am now editing HD with Vs 11+ thanks to the help from this forum. I`m also using a computer with HDMI output and able to edit sitting in my armchair !! I am now 78 years old and your help has kept me on track with the latest developments.
I read this forum every day !!
Best wishes to you all around the world.

Howdy forum

The name is Mike Hazzard and I reside in Minnesota. Amateur video maker that is now using Corel for animations and graphics. I believe there are some VisualStudio users also on this board, as I recognize some names that helped me a from my first attempt at video editting. I am currently using Sony Vegas for most of my work, but still have VisualStudio ready in case of problems.

Really just posting this to ensure that my membership remains active (I got a curious message saying "Your application to become a member of the Corel User to User Web Board has been approved on a provisional basis" - even though I've been posting here, on and off, for a year or so.)

Anyway, I'm John Miller Crawford, an independent IT consultant, and, yes, that really is my photo on the left. I do video editing sporadically, using DVDMF5 (haven't found a good reason yet to upgrade) and do a daily check on the DVDMF area of this board, picking up the occasional useful tip, and, evem more occasionally, leaving a tip of my own for someone.

I'm Steve Palko from Mendocino County in Northern California. I am 57 years old and have worked in IT as a network admin, rollout tech & desktop support tech. I have worked in video production/post production for many years in Southern California and in the movie industry as a day player actor and as a location/bodyguard/security agent back in the 1980's.

I have since moved to Mendocino 5 years ago. I am semi-retired and am building computers, websites and shooting part time. I am still editing with several apps including VS-11, MSP8, PI-11, VEGAS Pro8, Adobe Premier Pro, After Effects, PhotoShop CS3 Extended, & Acrobat 9.

I shoot in HDV - Sony 1080i with a Sony HDR- FX-1 & HDR-HC-1. My dedicated video computer is a Dual Core - Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Conroe 3.0GHz overclocked to 3.6GHz, ABIT MoBo IP-35 Pro with 2 Terabytes of SATA 3 HDD (Samsung, Seagate & Western Digital) and 2 Gigs Corsair RAM. I have a small Lan with 6 nodes.

I just recently added a Epson Flatbed Scanner a V-750 Pro which is teamed up with a Epson wide format 1800 Printer. I spend about 12 hours a day on my machines & love every minute of it.

I am putting a new website together which will offer as services: DVD Slide Show Movies (in Blu-ray HD as well as DV) Photo Restoration, Video Editing and Scanning Film/Prints.

Thats it from the North State.

Hi, My name is Babs and although born and bred in England, I have lived in Australia for many years. I was a Secretary for a long time, then got into computing and worked from home doing word processing and desktop publishing, and also taught "MS Office". Now given up work but still spend too many hours on the computer.

Aha so I see the board's name has changed - though the addy hasn't and now I have been provisionally approved again. Ho hum.

I think I first got into Ulead software with a freebie version of VideoStduio that was included with a video card many years ago, closely followed by a demo version of PI5. PI5 rocked (at the time) so I bought it, followed by upgrade to PI6. I thought the nearly monthly component template releases were really fun and its a shame those stopped - I'd like to see some more new ones. Then bought full PI8 as that wrapped everything up nicely in a single install. That's still my "go to" version of PI, rock solid and does everything I want. Later bought PI12 and have used it a few times but frankly its hard to find what's new apart from the interface. I'll probably buy X3 or X4 or whatever when I start using Vista as my main OS.

I hope this makes it in under the 24 hour limit!

I've been a Paint Shop Pro user since the last century, starting with version 4. A friend introduced it to me as an earlier version, but I wasn't impressed. With v5, things got a lot better.

I recommend PSP to my clients if they have any needs beyond the basics, due to the easy to use interface and easy to understand concepts.

Thank you and I hope we pass the audition.

Greetings! I'm 56 y/o from the San Francisco Bay Area. Started with
Windows Moviemaker and then have stayed with the Ulead/Corel
products for past 6-7 years. This forum is one of the main reasons
I've chosen to stay with Ulead/Corel products - I've always been able
to get an answer to a dilemna. I'm currently tinkering with Pro x2.
I'm mainly a hobbyist - I do films of weddings, tennis, gymnastics,
family parties, etc. My one wish in the future is that Videostudio
incorporate the Smart Compositor that was used in Mediastudio. This
would even make Videostudio a better product than it is now. I
continue to use Mediastudio's Smart Compositor to finish off some my Videostudio projects.

GoodConsumer here. My real name is Phillip and I live in a small town located in northwestern Oregon called, Vernonia. No, not Veronica, Vernonia. It's a small logging community nestled in the Coastal Mountain Range. My wife Pam and I are both in our mid-sixties and enjoy the quietness of rural country living. We are about 50 miles northwest of Portland, Oregon. Our home is located on a creek in the woods. Because we live in such a rural area, we are probably one of a few who only can access the Internet via a 'dialup' connection.

Earlier this year as our trip to China was starting to materialize, we decided to buy a Camcorder. The Sony Camcorder came with editing tools but they were very limited. As usual, I searched Amazon. After reading the reviews about 'Ulead VisualStudio 11' I bought it. Reviews are a great way to compare products when shopping.

When I first started using 'Ulead' I couldn't figure out the purpose of the red line above the clips. Even with the manual, I had a hard time understanding this feature. That's when I investigated and joined the 'Corel User Forum' and I'm sure glad I did. I received quick assistance from Australia, England and the State of Pennsylvania. I personally feel this is a far superior method of solving problems than contacting 'Customer Service' of a product manufacturer and speaking with someone who hadn't personally experienced what you are talking about.

Our first use of 'Ulead' was prior to our trip to China, actually it was in the Columbia River Gorge spending time at a Bed & Breakfast. The film of this trip came out pretty good and was my first real experience using this software.

Upon our return from China I had nine hours of video. For the next three months I worked on 'Part 1' of a two part series about our trip. On a Sunday night, at our church, Nehalem Valley Bible Church, I showed 'Part 1', which was 4.5 hours of video, reduced to 1 hour, 7 minutes and 14 seconds. The congregation loved it and many said it looked so professional. Ever since that Sunday night they continually ask, 'When will we see 'Part 2'? Sad to say, I haven't even begun to work on Part 2 yet. At present I'm helping a local artist get exposure on the Internet. In the near future, about a month from now, if you want to see some beautiful watercolor note card prints check out 'BlackberryCornerArt.com'. Not sure yet but thinking about linking our website with Amazon. I'll start building the site next week. The software to build the site was purchased on Amazon after reading the rave reviews posted.

It goes without saying, without the help of you good folks who hear the cry for help, I would not have had problems resolved so quickly, thank you! I'm sorry to think that the only time we communicate with each other is when we need help. I appreciate all of you even when I do not need assistance!

Wishing all of you lots of success in ALL aspects of life! Remember, there really is life after Ulead.

I want to be more than 'provisional' !!

Hi everyone and great to read about you all!

Firstly my name is Judi also 50+ years old (seems the right age for this forum reading through the posts so far!) and a resident in Sydney Australia. My background is in the telecommunications and media industries.

I started my media creative life with Paint Shop Pro but deserted it for Photoshop a few years back. But I started the video side of things with VS7 and have just upgraded to V12Ultimate. I also have a new high end laptop for which I am proposing to buy the new Photo and Video bundle (which will bring me back to Paint Shop Pro again).

I am a self employed Web/Media Producer and create videos from people's old photographs, VHS video, 8mm film etc creating Family Histories and "This is Your Life" surprise birthday gifts etc. I also make videos for a University here in Sydney about the research/training they conduct with refugee communities here and overseas.

I guess that's enough of me...... this forum has been an invaluable source of sound advice to a newbie a few years ago. It's a great 'family' to belong to. Some forums are not really active, this is a vibrant place with tremendous experience and knowledge amongst the contributors.

Keep it up !

Judi
