Hi
My name is Stelios and I have been in these forums some time ago. I find them excellent to get information about Ulead (now Corel) products that otherwise you will never get in the manuals. I live in the beautiful island of Cyprus and I am a Project Manager (Electronics Engineer by profession) and part time event videographer.

hello
Hi. My name is Nora Haniff. I'm from Malaysia. I manage a family investment holding company. I graduated from Boston University a long time ago in Business Administration and Finance. My hobbies are playing the violin, listening to music, singing for fun, travelling, photography and horseback riding. Since I got myself this Canon HV20 however I've been neglecting my EOS 3. I never went digital since I like the effects of negatives and slides too much to change. But I love my camcorder too. My folks are getting older and my nephews and nieces growing up so fast so I like to capture every event on HD. I got myself the Ulead video studio 11 and it's pretty neat so far. I don't have much patience to try everything out since time doesn't permit but maybe over time I'll try them out. Nice to meet everyone here!

Hi folks....I'm Rob, aka RDK45, a crazy American born in Nebraska and now retired and living in France, just outside of Cannes. Some say I'm a "Kept man on the French Riviera" - hey someone has to do it!!!
I joined this forum in 2005, but my photography and video interests go way back to when dirt was young. My first 35mm camera was the 1960's equivalent of today's compact point and shoot digital cameras. It was a Kodak Retinette with a fixed lens, but with aperture and shutter controls. That camera travelled with me backpacking and globe trotting for almost 20 years. Still works but now only collects dust on a shelf.
I grew up to a Canon AE1, although bigger, heavier and more complicated, it became my camera for all activities.
In the early 1980's I bought a RCA VHS video camera. Wow, what a great idea but BIG and BULKY, although it did make it into the Rockies on several week long backpacking trips. With extra battery, etc it added 12 lbs to my pack which was already way to heavy.
As others have commented about film, editing VHS required 2 or more VHS tape decks and lots of patience. I did make a few productions, but most of these tapes stayed hidden on the original tapes until I got my first copy of ULead Video Studio 5 in the 2001, if I remember right??
By then I also had purchased a Sony TRV-330 (NTSC), which I used to digitize the analogue VHS tape signal on its way to my PC. And there started my first video editing and production activities. Since then I have purchased another Sony, DCR HC96E (PAL) which I now use to convert French PAL VHS tapes for my family and friends here. Of course both Sony cameras are also used to capture the highlights of our current life and travels - family&friends, backpacking, hiking, and skiing!
I guess I should comment on my computer skills. I'm a chemist and a mathematician by training. However, over the years have programmed machines from the IBM 360 mainframe to the Commodore 64 and now PC's. The mainframe activities were my introduction to computers while doing research for my chemistry degrees, and I was hooked. I used these extra skills in my work until I retired and they continue here at home where we have a network with 4 PC's and two laptops (several others retired up on a shelf). I also have my own web and mail server in a datacenter back in the USA which I maintain via a VPN.
The same problem we had with film video cameras, I had with my mountain of 35mm slides. They were all in boxes, albums and folders and thus generally not accessible on the computer. To fix that I bought a high resolution Minolta "Dimage Scan Dual" slide and negative scanner and then spent many hours/days/weeks scanning and editing the resulting digital images (cropping, scratch and dust fixing, and color correcting).
I joined the forum to ask questions. Like one of the other's who have introduced themselves, I get a bit lost when the discussion "rises" into type 1/2, upper/lower, bit rates, Codec's, etc. However, I have usually found that the folks on this forum were able to come down to my level and have usually succeeded in getting me "around the corner".
My current issues are around converting PAL format video from my new camera to NTSC productions for family and friends in the USA. The issue revolves around Video Studio converting line count and frame rate from PAL to NTSC which often results in "shimmering" along image boundaries where contrast is high. By the way, I don't see this issue when going from NTSC to PAL.
I'm currently using Video Studio 10 and 11. I have 11+ but, when I install it, it trashes something and then none of the Video Studio versions can find the DVD burner. An annoying problem as I would like to use 11+, but don't feel right now like uninstalling all my versions and starting over.....
And I have ordered Video Studio X2 Pro.
Have a great day.....Rob

Hi there, checking in as suggested
My name is Owen Jones and live in the NorthWest of the UK. Originally from the West Coast of Wales, where my family continue to live. I'm a research scientist with a large multinational now and live with my wife on edge of the Peak District. According to my wife I spend too much on my 'boys toys' (which is probably true), and I certainly spend too much enjoying a pint with our friends!
Photography was my first interest, having saved all summer working for my dad, so I could save up and buy a Minolta 7000AF, which for anyone who cares to remember was the first AF SLR back in the mid 80's. I still have that camera, its last full outing was only 5 years ago on a trip to NZ and Australia. Its amazing to the think that the lens I bought at the time a couple more a few years later still work on my current DSLR, which is a KonicaMinolta Dynax 5D - got my eye on a Sony A700 (if the wife lets me in a few months).
A video camera was far too expensive for me when I was young, but my uncle had one and I 'borrowed' that quite a bit and loved the whole editing using the camera and a single Video recorder - very time consuming and not particularly accurate and of course the quality dropped quickly - we just don't know how good we've got it today.
Currently don't own a Video camera, but have my other eye (this time with the wife's ok) on a Panny SD9, which we plan to get before the end of the year.
Think thats about enough info for now, other than to say I use MF, VS and wish they would make the codec rendering options more flexible (i.e. less greyed out boxes!)

Hi, Newbie here just confirming my account for now. I've just installed VS11.5+ on a Vista HP Intel Quad Processor and had some problems with Video Filters missing. I found the answer here and thought I'd join in and share my problems and hopefully help others.
My next problem is DivX not appearing in the export dialogs. Which i'll post later
Cheers for running the board, I always seem to have better luck on user forums in finding answers than dealing with the manufacturers

Confirming my account....
Hello.
I'm not really sure why I have to confirm my account - I've been a member for ages as far as I am concerned.
Anyway, not surprisingly my name is Stewart Turner. I live in Devon in the UK. My profession is as an international advisor in the business of satellites.
I have a wife of (nearly) 10 years and three children aged 6, 3 and 7 months.
I have always been fascinated by the few fragments of 8mm cine film of me and my sisters when I was young, so as soon as we decided to have kids of our own I went right out and bought a DV camera about 7 years ago. I'm now using a Sony HDD camcorder and UVS 10+.
Having said all of that I am likely to finally ditch UVS and try something else in the near future as I have had stability problems with UVS ever since I started using it from version 7.
