Activation Code

Post by downesa »

I hope someone on this forum can help me out because customer service certainly don't seem to be able to. I bought VS 10 as an upgrade about a year ago. A couple of weeks ago I was forced to format my hard drive and reload all my software. I loaded VS 10 (trial version that I originally downloaded) on again and then tried to activate it with the original licence key supplied when I bought VS 10. However this did not work. I then contaced customer service who wanted all my original documentation (invoices etc) which I supplied. They then sent me the following link which was supposed to download a new version of the software:
ftp://ULJEV27J:UD71SKC3@Private.ulead.c ... _esd_e.exe
This downloaded a file of just over 1 meg which when I ran it said that the file was corrupted. The link was also only available for 3 days. I reported this to them but have heard nothing further. I now only have 8 days left to activate the software.
Does anyone have any ideas ?? I am now desperate !!!

THanks

Sorry, I don't know how to help you with your current problem, and the link you provided is 'unavailable' now, so I can't even try the download myself.

But you say you bought an upgrade version of VS10. On reinstalling it on the newly formatted drive, did you first install an earlier version of VS, or at least put the installation disc of a previous version, if you had one, in one of your computer drives, so that the VS10 installation program could 'see' that you were entitled to the upgrade? That was the normal procedure for upgrade versions (though with VS11, they now only require the serial number of the previous version).

You appear to have made back up copies of your software, emails and receipts. However can I clarify the original problem that you encountered.

When you attempted to activate the trial version, is this what you did on your original hard drive or when you purchased the software did you instead obtain a full copy of VideoStudio 10 and were possibly given a serial number?

When you say your current attempt to re-install failed, at what point was that failure - installation or activation/registration?

It may well be that you will have to request a fresh download link again, which as you have discovered are only available for a few days. If you end up going down this path then I suggest that you use a download manager such as GetRight.

Perhaps the new installation is faulty and you need to uninstall and try again.

What error messages were given and when?

I originally downloaded the trial version of VS 10 and then once I had decided to buy it I was supplied with an activation code. When I reloaded the software this time it was the same trial version that I tried to re-activate with the supplied code without any success. The3 software had however installed correctly. As I say they did send me a new link which did not work. I downloaded it with ReGet Deluxe. The error messge was to the effect of "this file is corrupted check out the source". The file was however only a 1meg file as opposed to the 133meg file that it should be.
I did not install the original version of VS 7 (this is the version I used for the upgrade) as the installation of VS 10 did not ask for it. I asked the customer service if this was required but they did not come back to me.
I have sent numerous mails to customer service without response. Is there any way of phoning them directly ??

To summarise then.
You had a full copy of VideoStudio 7
You downloaded a trial copy of VideoStudio 10, decided you liked it and requested an activation key.

I suspect that the activation key was an upgrade key rather than a key for the full version. The upgrade of course being a cheaper option.

I suggest that you install VideoStudio 7, then install VideoStudio 10 Trial.
Now try the activation key again. If this fails to work then unfortunately you will have to contact Ulead again to obtain another download.

Yes your summary is correct. They did not actually call it an activation key they called it a Licence Key.

I will try to uninstall VS 10 and then install VS 7 and then VS 10 again tonight. That is if I can find my copy of VS 7 which I last used a while ago.

Thanks for your help

Last night I unistalled VS 10 installed VS 7 and then re-installed VS 10. However when I tried to enter the activation code I was told "activation was unsuceesful. The activation code was unsuccessful" I also got a answer from Customer Service saying that they could not generate a new activation code because their servers were being upgraded.

What I fon't understand is that I am installing my legally bought software on exactly the same lap top. Why should I need a new activation code ??
That essentialy means that if you buy a new computer you cannot install your software even if it is unistlled from the first one. Even Microsoft doesn't go to those lengths !!!
