WinDVD 8 Platinum activated but Trimension doesn't work!

Post by richard20_bris »

Well, I FINALLY got WinDVD 8 Platinum to work on my operating system (Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit). I'll post my "solution" to the activation problem tomorrow. But, there still remains one significant problem - the program freezes up when I try to play a DVD with Trimension turned on. I don't understand why this would be a problem, as I watched a dozen or so DVDs with trimension turned on during the trial period, and experienced no problems at all.

Just for the sake of it, I updated my graphics card drivers (ASUS EN8800 GTS, 320 MB). But the problem remains unchanged.

So, I thought I'd ask around to see if one of you guys can perform a miracle and give me a solution. I've totally given up on InterVideo "customer support". Totally. I don't even feel the least bit compelled to let them know that I've actually managed to successfully activate my product (after earlier requesting a refund). I doubt there's anyone receiving the emails we send them anyway. And I'm certainly NOT concerned about any InterVideo staffer actually reading anything I post here, on their own website / gravestone.

no clue about Trimension, but how did you get it activated?

Hi there MasterYoda.

Sorry for the delay in this response. I have just been busy with exams. Anyhow, here's how I FINALLY managed to "successfully" activate WinDVD 8 Platinum on Windows Vista Home Premium (64 bit).

1) First of all, you HAVE to download the WinDVD 8 installer file located on this page:

http://www.explorecommerce.com/members/ ... 6&ID=10289

(see the direct download link at the bottom of the page)

This is the ONLY version of the WinDVD 8 installer that I would successfully install AND activate on my machine. I had previously tried to install the version of WinDVD 8 that is on the main downloads section of the InterVideo website, as well as an apparently "more recent" version of the same installer that I got off filehippo.com. But neither of them worked. And yes, I tried these exact steps with all three versions.

2) Okay then, once you've downloaded the WinDVD installer from the above link I right clicked on it and selected to run it as an administrator. (I don't know if I NEEDED to do this, but I decided I might as well, just to be on the safe side). Then I just went through the usual install procedure.

3) Once it installed and was ready to activate, I made SURE I turned off ALL of my internet security programs/functions. (e.g. I use Norton Protection Centre, so I made sure that my firewall, spyware detection, auto protect, and intrusion prevention functions were all temporarily turned OFF). It SUCKS that you have to do that to ensure that the program can be activated. I HATE to put my computer at risk like that, albeit probably minimal risk. But anyhow, I did it and it helped the activation process work, so oh well.

4) Once the program was installed and ready to be activated, I (once again) right clicked on the program icon and selected "run as administrator"). Then, I just entered my details and my license key in the usual way....and, presto....it worked . I now have WinDVD 8 Platinum working on my computer....well, except for the Trimension part of it. Although admittedly, it is still such a good program (if you can actually get it activated!) that even without trimension it is significantly better than its main competitor - PowerDVD 7.

So, that's it. That's how I got it activated. I hope you have the same "good fortune" that I did, MasterYoda. Just don't forget that following those steps only worked for me when I downloaded that SPECIFIC version of the installer that I provided the link to, above. Any other version simply won't activate for me while using the exact same procedure.

Well, best of luck!

YAY! that worked for me!

Why does there product have to be so great, yet their support sucks SO VERY MUCH.

the only relatively official person on here just responds with "try a clean reinstall" and then "Read the FAQs" no support after that...

The official support people don't even give you an email response...what the hell is going on with this company.

scroll to the bottom of the page and try installing that patch, see if that works.

Hahaha! No, that patch won't install. My version of WinDvd 8 is "invalid" (i.e. too recent). The patch was apparently designed for a slightly older version of WinDVD 8.

You gotta wonder if the folks at InterVideo aren't sitting reading these messages from us poor helpless end-users and doubling over with laughter!
