Reduce file size by changing image size

Post by Trebly »

Hello,
I tried to find this information into the forum without success. I believe that it probably exist, but where ?

Even I use photo edit tools, I am a new user of video. I made someones but it is the first time that I meet the following problem :

- I have a movie (.mov) with 640x480 image size and the filesize is 32Mo for 2mn45s.
- To view it into a website page I determine that the best should be 320x240 size with a filesize near 10Mo (to begin quickly and have comonly a fluid flow).

I believe that with the same definition a treatment should reduce the filesize (for images I change pixels definition size of the image - so the image disply size at 100%- and later I compress it) in such case the size of the file is reduced by a 4 factor.

When I create a videofile with Mediastudio video editor from 640x480 with a 320x240 size the image quality goes to 320x240 but the filesize is not reduced. Which parameter to change the image dsiplay size and the filesize ?

I am sure that I missed something.

Thank's for your help

My best luck was either rendering it to a wmv file or converting it to a flash file with a utility called Flash Video Studio found at http://www.flashvideostudio.com/. FVS will make a typical file that you have to about 6 megs or so.

I agree with Mr. Amigo2121, especially about converting it to Flash format. Flash seems to be about the most common format used currently for streaming video over the web.

File size has nothing to do with the frame (image) dimensions.

File size is determined by bitrate and duration only.

A one-minute video at 1mbps is always 7.15 MB irrespective of the framesize, codec etc.

The quality - how good it looks - is mosty determined by bitrate, codec, image dimensions, framerate, colour depth and video content.
