I get this error message when I go to Burn to DVD in Videostudio 9.

Is there a way to correct it?

Thanks

It means the program is trying to convert something in your project, but because of the vagueness of the error message it's tough to figure out what it is - it usually takes trial and error to figure it out. Could be a motion menu, menu music, menu buttons overlapping, etc.

Start by telling us your clip properties, project properties, and how you went about trying to burn.

I had images set to 7 sec. Changed them back to 5 sec. When it goes to render it goes farther through but now I get this new error message...

Cannot read video (0x800:8000:185)

Now what?

Let's start at the beginning. Do you follow the suggested workflow?

The VideoStudio workflow is Capture>Edit>Share>Create Disc to burn to DVD. For some people this workflow does not work. What is suggested is, when you are finished your editing go to Share and create a DVD-compatible MPEG-2 file. Then you clear the timeline (by starting a new project) and immediately go to Share>Create Disc where you Insert the MPEG-2 file, then burn.

I didn't do the workflow as per your outline.. But I will do it this time..
I couldn't capture the video directly into VS.. I was in Italy and had to clear off the media and burn the video files to CD to make room for more video.. I had 4 Gig worth to work with, and I put all that on CD over there in Italy.. So when I went to edit the video in VS I had VS import the files from a directory where they were copied off of the CD's .. I will try the work flow as you suggested and post back my results.. Thanks

Sounds like you could have a corrupt image/video/audio file. Can you tell, during the rendering process, where the error occurs? Is it at the same place every time?

Yes... Stops at the same place each time.. I deleted that scene and then it will stop at the next scene too.. I didn't go any further than that at this point.. What do you suggest? Go through all the scenes until I find where it does not stop?

You may have to do just that. Don't forget that it could also be an audio file if you have one that spans those clips.

My father had a similar problem (with another application) in which his DVD wouldn't burn. What I instructed him to do was split his project in half and try to burn the first half, then the second. The one that wouldn't burn he then split in half again, and so on and so on until he finally found the culprit - a corrupt audio file. He replaced it and happily burned his project.

How do I split my project in half? I've done everything else and I still get the same error..

1.) Put your project in the Timeline. Move your cursor to the point you would like to split it. Underneath the Preview Window you will see a scissors icon. Clicking on that will cut the clip.

2.) So now your project is in two parts. Delete the second part and save the first part as Test 1 (or whatever name you wish). Now test that clip to see if you can burn.

If it does, then repeat the steps above but in step 2 you'll want to delete the first part and save the second part as Test 2. When you find a part that still does not burn you will have to continue the steps until you narrow down where the corruption lies.
