Newbie Question #2: Exporting to iPod?

Post by The Walrus »

Newcomer here.

I was using ULead Video 10 Demo and was able to transfer stuff to my iPod. There was an option for that in the "Share Dialogue."

Just bought Video Studio 11 (newer is better, I thought), but I can't find this same option. Does it exist in Ulead 11?

If you have the standard version, need VS11 Plus. :( Compare here.

But, I think your iTunes software can do it, depending on the format of your source-video. If you are importing from a DVD, you would need to use Video Studio to import the DVD to an MPEG file, and then bring that MPEG file into iTunes. Last time I checked, iTunes couldn't import directly from a DVD. (Of course, I'm talking about a non-commercial non-copy-protected DVDs.)

You might even be able to create your own custom-format template with Video Studio 11. Or, you can try using SUPER, a FREE universal-conversion program.

From the iPod web site:
Does the video need to be encoded in a special way?
iPod can play the following video formats:

H.264
File formats: .m4v, .mp4, and .mov
Video: Up to 768 kbits/sec, 320 x 240, 30 frames per second (fps), Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3.
Audio: AAC-LC up to 160 kbits/sec, 48 Khz, and stereo audio.

MPEG-4
File formats: .m4v, .mp4, and .mov
Video: Up to 2.5 Mbits/sec, 480 x 480, 30 fps, Simple Profile.
Audio: AAC-LC up to 160 kbits/sec, 48 Khz, stereo audio.
