capturing frame rate dilemma

Post by redsky »

Nature of the problem : When capturing a video using my dv camera, I noticed that its capturing a frame per second rather than 29.297 frames per second. I know its somethng to do with MRSP because I tried capturing with Windows Movie Maker and the playback speed is correct played.

You are not making sense. Are you getting the video in DV-AVI format from your camera via firewire? Apart from selecting DV type 1 or type 2 there are no settings and the video is not "captured" in the true sense of the word but rather transferred as is from the camera to the PC.

As a work around, if we can't find out what's wrong, use MovieMaker to capture and MSP to edit. Simple.

What model of camera are you using?

capturing dilemma

Hi Heinz,

What Im trying to say is that when I tranfer video from my dv camera via fire wire, My playback of that video is very very fast . The reason for this is that it is capturing the footage at a frame per second as opposed to 29.97fps like it should. I have the project settings for AVI..Is there anything I can do to correct this...It hasnt always done this..It just started today.)...Thanks

From the capture module, can you control your camcorder by clicking on the buttons for FF, Play, Stop etc?

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!... I resolved the capturing dilemma I was having.. It wasnt a technical problem..I just kind of narrowed down the possible reasons why...and that reason was I had the setting for capturing on Manual.. I found out when its on that particular setting it only captures video.. I am not sure why that is or why it captures a frame per second with the Manual setting but it does.. I just set the paraameters to Auto(no limit) and it worked like a charm:)) ... Thanks for trying to help...

ps... Just out of curiousity..Do you happen to know why it doesnt capture Audio when its set to Manual capture?.. I just like to gain knowledge:) Thanks

Never used manual capture and, hence, cannot offer any insight as to why no sound is captured. I wouldn't worry about it either and capture in automatic with no time limit every time. I know I do

Glad you worked it out. Good luck.

I'm guessing that caturing video at anything other than the full frame rate negates capturing any audio. It can't very well squeeze 29.97 fps worth of audio into 1 fps.
