vstudio.exe Application Error

Post by AlanD »

When I try to open a half completed project in VS10+ I get the message " The instruction at "0x0b4d7545" referenced memory at "0x0b4d7545" The memory could not be read"
The programme then closes down.
I have checked the Registry with 'RegistryRepair Pro' but to no avail. Is this a memory fault? or is there a cheaper solution than a new 2GB DDR RAM!!
Any help would be much appreciated

To try and determine if it is a memory problem try
1) loading another project
OR
2) shut down PC and try again
OR
3) shut down PC, start one or mored other applications before starting VS10+ then try and load the project (hopefully this will force VS10+ to use another memory location)
AND/OR
4) test your memory - there is software available for testing RAM such as MEMTEST32

Video Studio 10 Error Message

Post by AlanD »

Thanks to John whose reply alas did not help :( I also received two from ULead themselves, the first suggested I change the Virtual Memory settings to 1024/4096: my settings were 2048/4096, anyway I did change them and not surprisingly there was no change and the programme crashed!. The second was to do a complete uninstall and then reinstall the programme. This I did with all the consequent reloading of the AVI files in the Library(ten files each of approx 5 GB).
When I restarted and tried to open my partially completed project I again got the message "The instruction at 0xoaf47545 referenced memory at 0x0af47545. The memory could not be read"
Is there anyone who could shed some light on this problem and help me please?

Did you run a test on your RAM (memory)? When you do, it needs to run several passes. Sometimes a single pass test will not find the failing section of the memory module. Several passes should detect it more accurately.

Vstudio Application Error

Post by AlanD »

Thanks to all who haave responded but alas the problem still exists! I have uninstalled and reinstalled VStudio 10 Plus, changed the virtual Memory settings to what ULead themselves recommend, tried various other combinations (such as No VM,4096/4096,3043/4096 etc), downloadedd Microsoft's Memory Test/Diagnostic and run it 4 times in Extended Test mode all without a single fault or hitch! Although when I tried to run the different memory map with the MStest programme it refused to run and kept returning to the previous settings!
The error message "the instruction at 0xb9a7545 referenced memory at 0xb9a7545. The memory could not be read" indicates to me that a circular reference is being set up, have I got it all wrong? The same address for both Instruction and memory content seems a bit strange to me. Can anyone help please?

Video Studio: Application Error

Post by apavloff »

I don't know if I can help but I have also had similar errors and haven't found the cause. I am running a dual core pentium with 1GB of memory and recently upgraded to 2GB. I have been getting lots of the errors that you describe so I ran memtest86 on all the simms individually (for 6 hours each) and got no errors. Thinking the new memory was at fault I removed it and the number of error messages decreased but didn't completely stop. I am still getting about 2 of those messages per about 4 hours of work (building projects and editing). Anybody have a clue about this?

VS Application Error

Post by AlanD »

Hi Pavloff and all others who have been kind enough to read this thread,
I think I have this problem fixed!! I checked with the Guru who made my Computer and his immediate response was "That is a Windows problem" So I had all my own Data stored on an external Hard drive, then had the hard drive reformatted and repartitioned to 1x50GB and 1x200GB, then I did a new install of Windows XP SP2 and then reinstalled ULead Video Studio 10. Wonders of wonders it all worked and no more nasty Error messages!! Success at last.
Now if I can only find all my old e-mails and address lists I will be truly happy, but the main thing is I can do some editing again!
Thanks to everyone for your interest and comments.

VS Application Error

Post by apavloff »

Alan,
Glad you got the problem fixed. One other thing you need to consider is from one of the tutorials on VS referenced in this forum. You need to render a project only once in order to maximize quality and to avoid errors. I must have rendered my project about 10 times and got all kinds of the memory errors you described. I re-built the project, called it master and made a copy for rendering and deleted the original project. The memory errors went away and I have a cleaner project. Thought you would want to know. Alex

Video Studio Application Errors

Post by AlanD »

Dear Alex,
Thanks for the suggestion I will certainly bear it in mind when I get to that stage. Just at present I am still having problems with the Computer which I hope have no bearing on Ulead!
