annoying avi file name on bottom of screen throughout movie
Hi, I made a movie with my severely disabled students in MovieMaker. I just need to burn a decent DVD. Before I started I thought burning a DVD was like burning a CD. After trying another program with poor results, I downloaded MovieFactory6. I burned the first DVD onto a DVD+R. It worked great on some DVD players and on others there was about 1 minute out of 22 that "stuttered". Then I learned that DVD-R would be a better option. I burned the DVD again and there is no stuttering on any DVD player, however on the players that used to stutter, there is an annoying line of print stating the name of the avi file that I used. It stays at the bottom of the screen throught the movie. That line of print does not show when I play the DVD on the computer or on the DVD players that never stuttered in the first place. What is going on? I would buy MovieFactory if I could get these issues fixed. Thanks for helping.
Weird! I've never seen THAT before! Normally, the AVI filename(s) shouldn't even exist on the DVD!
I was thinking maybe it's an option of the DVD player to show the "title" of the movie. There is a place on the Burn screen to enter a Label (volume name). Did you enter that filename as the Label.
However, if that's the case, I would expect the see the title whenever a commercial DVD is played. Most commercial DVDs have a label/volume name that shows with Windows Explorer... But, I've never seen it show-up as part of the movie.
If DVD-R works better on these players... Stick with it. But the stuttering might be improved if you burn at a slower burn-speed (i.e. 4X is usually good). At slower speeds, you usually get a cleaner burn... The "pits" will be usually be better defined. A different brand or a different batch of blanks might make a difference too.
As you may now know, some players can't play "burned" (homemade) DVDs at all. Some can play DVD-R but not DVD+R, or vice-versa. Some can't play dual-layer burned DVDs. If you don't know anything about the particular player (i.e. if you are handing-out DVDs to students or parents, etc.), your odds are best with DVD-R.

figured it out
Thanks for your replies. I figured it out. When I was fiddling around with MovieFactory buttons to see what they did, I must have checked "make subtitle". And I guess it by default puts in the file name until you over-ride it with your own text. That still doesn't explain why it showed up on the "bad" DVD players and not the "good" ones, but I'm happy to have a nice DVD for the movie premiere of "The Wild Bunch" to show to parents.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
