Keep getting error message when trying to burn disk

Post by oceanauk »

Every time I go to burn the dvd once it's taken several hours to render it finally goes to burn and I get an error message saying "power calibration failure" - why is this happening and what does it mean?

The first thing to do is to "capture" the results of the rendering process, so that you don't have to go through the several-hour rendering process again:

On the Burn screen, un-check the box that says Burn Disc and check the box that says Create DVD Folders. That will create the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders on your hard drive. You can later copy these to an actual DVD.
..."power calibration failure" - why is this happening and what does it mean?
As I understand it, everytime you burn a DVD the DVD burner will adjust the power of the laser by making a test-burn in a special reserved place on the DVD. I think this whole test & calibrate process is handled by the firmware (inside the burner) or by the driver. I don't think it has anything to do with the application (Movie Factory).

You may simply have a bad blank DVD, or a blank that's incompatible with your burner.

Or, you may have some other software conflict or problem that's preventing burning.

Do you have any other burning software on your computer? Some "drag & drop" burning software (Nero InCD, etc.) can sometimes "take over" your burner and prevent other burning programs from working.

If you do have a conflicting burning-program, you can try disabling it, or you can create the DVD folders on your hard drive, and use that other burning software to copy the folders to a blank DVD.
