HELP: Playing VS5 videos on other computers

Post by HotShotX »

We've recorded a bunch of videos using VideoStudio 5, and burned them to CD (all are .AVI) files, but none of them will play on other computers. What codecs do we need to fix this issue, and where can I get them.

Fast replies are greatly appreciated.

Do you mean you have burnt .AVI files to a CD ?????

What sort of .avi - if you mean DV-AVI then they must be very very short videos. If not DV-AVI then what ??

If you have burnt .avi files to a disc then how are you trying to play them on other computers - a CD with .avi files on will not self start - even if you have a suitable viewer on the other computers - although it may bring up the Windows "What do you want to do" box.

Whatever you have burnt you need some sort of viewer on the other computers and may need to open that first and then browse to you CD to get the video to play.

And VideoStudio 5 is very very old - an upgrade may be required - we are now at version 11.

They are all DV-AVI files, 30 seconds each. Any yes, I'm aware about CDs being non-self starting. I'm fully capable of entering the CD through My Computer and accessing the files directly, as well as selecting the player I want it played in.

The problem is, as I stated, that the files play but there is no video (sound wasn't recorded). As far as it being an old version, if the movies could not play on other computers in AVI format, then the AVI format would NOT be an option for file formatting in VS5, as that would be completely pointless to make a movie NO ONE could watch.

Even it there is no sound playing back ( a problem) a dv file played back from a CD can be probmatic because CD's cannot usually be read fast enough. The video usually studdersb ( a true DV file).
