AVCHD --> MPEG-2 crashes when rendering

Post by Pagzzz »

Hello all,

I have a Panasonic HDC-SD1 and found this forum very helpful when trying to get my VS 11+ to work with the files. I was able to successfully import the M2T files into my project, and set my project settings according to this post:

http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... ght=hdcsd1

When I do the recomended workflow in the above post, namely...
Create a hd-mpeg2 file that can be edited:
Goto "Share -> Create Video File -> Same as Project Settings
Save the video file, start a new project and use this new hd-mpeg2 file for editing. When you insert the video file VS will ask to change the project settings to equal the source video, answer "Yes". VS should then make the necessary changes to your "Project Settings". The same settings you manually created above.
The program crashes about halfway through rendering. Extremely frustrating since it takes over an hour to render 20min of video clips.

Can anyone (etech6355 or markk655?) help?

Thanks,
Pagzzz

Pagzzz,
The posted workflow for importing disks and conversions is a standard process in all versions of VideoStudio, so I would not suspect the workflow.

One of the h264 videos may have corruption in it (at least VS11+ thinks so).
You said "CLIPS", I would start a new project, load only one at a time and convert each one separately. When you get to the one that produces the error you will know.
It's very easy to combine the separately rendered hd-mpeg2 clips together.
After you have separately rendered them all (the good ones), load them into the timeline (match project settings = Yes), then Share -> Create Video File -> Mpeg Optimizer or same as project settings or same as first clip.

If I had 20 minutes of h264 videos to convert them to hd-mpeg2 would take hours, you must have a fast computer (dual-core or Core2-duo)?

Anyway, the workflow is correct but I'm having trouble getting the hd-mpeg2 videos to look as good as the original H264 videos. The HD-Mpeg2 files are good until the cam pans or someone moves in the video, the motion isn't correct (usually indicates a fielding problem).
I don't have a solution to this.

What I do is go into the VideoStudio 11 Plus Preferences and I set Upper Field First as the "default" field order. Then I click SHARE > CREATE VIDEO FILE. Then I choose the custom option. The custom option lets you choose "MPEG-2" to access the high definition parameters. They are limited in VideoStudio 11 Plus. You can choose a 1440 x 1080 frame size with a maximum bitrate of 18000. Or you can choose the 1920 x 1080 frame size and with a maximum bitrate of 25000. I choose Upper Field First. In addition, the software constrains you to use MPEG audio, which I set at 256. The result looks okay. But I guess I expected a little better appearance of the edges of subjects in motion.
