I'll take a look at those.

I just checked Smartscene 06_OneS08 and what I see is that the text links have highlight images. The [play all] [next page] [previous page] buttons have the standard colour scheme type of link. It remains like this irrespective of turning the highlight images on/off on the design screen.

4:3 Thumbnail template 06_SceB10 have highlight images.
On the thumbnail links these are triangles at the lower left corner of the thumbnail. The navigation buttons [play all] [next] [previous] have a sort of circular highlight image. Again it does not matter if they are turned on/off on the design screen, they will still show on the preview.

I mentioned in one of my earlier posts that I sent an email to a Senior manager dealing with DVD MovieFactory. I have now received this self explanatory reply:
Hi Jones,
Thanks for you point out this.
I think we made a mistake to name "Show Highlight Image", it should be "display highlight object for adjusting¡L.

However, if user hided the highlight images of Menu and also on the completed DVD, how do they choose the title\chapter video from menu?

Best regards,
Even

Hello.

Based on the last response from "Even", it appears to me they do not have a clear understanding of this issue.

I would expect that if you "do not" select the "Show Highlight Buttons" when making a DVD, that you would not have any highlight buttons on your burn.

However, the issue is...regardless of whether you select the "Show Highlight Buttons" or not, the burned DVD does NOT show your buttons highlighted when you play your burned DVD in a standard DVD player. It only shows them if you play the DVD on your computer ( which I assume is because the code for showing it is accessible within the Ulead product folders from your DVD burner / player ) or on a Blu-ray Disc player ( which is expensive and I'm sure not everyone owns yet, or wants to ).

At any rate, we want to be sure that development has been made aware of the issue correctly and addresses it. It's going on 2 months now for me not being able to use this program, and I just bought it!

I have also spoken with Corel technical support. Conveniently they could not look up my ticket / issue number at the time I called, after waiting on hold for 30 min. They stated they will look into the issue and see if they could assist....but I'm starting to feel that nobody understands what the problem is.

I'm hoping that soon a resolution will take place. As I have stated before...I love using MovieFactory. It is easy and produces good results. But at this rate, I'm almost ready to ask for a refund and try a different program.

I'm pulling for Ulead to come up with a solution quickly.

Re- read my earlier post
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 560#124560

It is not a bug, fault or anything else of that nature, this is how the program is designed to work. The designers of the various ready made DVD templates provided with MovieFactory and also VideoStudio created each individual template either with highlight images or without.

You are given a mixture of templates to choose from and so if you want one with highlight images you have to use one that has them.
If you want to use a menu without highlight images you must use one that doesn't have them.

What Evan has stated is that they named the item "Show Highlight Image" wrongly - it is misleading. The purpose of it is to show the highlight image (if one exists) so that you can move it about or resize it.

I have suggested that they consider the ability to turn highlight images on/off on a DVD menu as a possible future enhancement.

Hello, and thank you for the reply and clarification.

I think I "may" have solved part of what the issue is.

Previously, I had been working with an "Upgrade" version of MF6 ( one that required 2 serial numbers to load ), from 3.5 to 6. That particular version was not displaying any highlights of the buttons when I played my burned DVDs on a Standard DVD player.

I recently loaded a "Standard" or "Full" version of MF6 v6.00.0194.0 ( required only 1 serial number ) onto my PC. I tried a test burn with Thumbnail Template 06_SCEB12. I was able to finally see the highlight buttons as I expected on my standard DVD players.

Is it possible that maybe an issue exists with the "upgrade" version of MF6 vs. the "full" or "standard" version?

Now, it should be noted that I still see that the templates mentioned in previous postings still do not display highlight buttons in the previews or subsequent burns to disc. But I believe you stated that was by design.

I was hoping that this information would be helpful to try and determine if there is or still continues to be an issue with MF6 v6.00.0194.1? That is the one given to me as an upgrade from my previous version. I continue to have the issue with burned DVDs not showing highlight buttons on my DVD player using a template that has highlight buttons functionality.

No I don't think that's possible. The "upgrade" version means that you are getting a reduced price for a "full" version. There are no other differences. The upgrade does ask for a serial number of a qualifying earlier version before allowing it to be installed. Other then that they are the same.

When I just created a dvd with MF6+ I noticed that even previewing with the menu preview screen I was having a hard time navigating the thumbnails. Seemed like only the small frame is actually used for the selection (forget the custom highlighting icons that follow the thumbnails).

I then went to customize and selected "Frame" I went all the way to the right and then selected "No Frame".
After returning back to the preview screen then the complete thumbnail changed color for navigating.
Maybe someone having this problem not being able to navigate can try this, goto custom, choose frame and then assign the "No Frame".
On my system after selecting "No Frame" the complete thumbnail was being highlighted which was much easier to see for navigation purposes.

Thank you for the explanation between the "upgrade" version and the "non-upgrade" version.

I would expect that the code or use of the program should not be different.

However, I'm having a hard time understanding why the upgrade version of "v6.00.0194.1" will not produce the highlight buttons on a burned DVD when played in a standard DVD player, while the standard version of "v6.00.0194.0" does.

Can someone explain why that is?

As I have reported in previous postings, I have uninstalled upgrade MF6 version completely and re-installed it numerous times. Still no highlights display on the buned DVD in my DVD player. I removed my Nero program as suggested by tech support, uninstalled it completely, then re-installed it, and still do not see highlights display on the burned DVD in my DVD player. I did a complete uninstall and re-install of my OS and loaded only the upgrade MF6 version, and still do not see highlights display on the burned DVD in my DVD player.

THEN, I uninstall the upgrade MF6 version completely and install the standard version, and all of a sudden I finally see highlight buttons on my burned DVD when I play it in my DVD players.

I still feel there is a coding issue, and I would like for someone to believe me. The only other thing I could do, is videotape myself loading the upgrade version to my PC, burning a project and playing it on a DVD player for someone to physically see what is happening. Then, videotape the same procedures with the standard version.

I swear I'm not crazy. Something is definately wrong, and I am not the only one experiencing this same issue.

Well somethings up because your not the only one that's reported this issue.
So I believe you although I think it was un-neccessary to re-install the OS and un-install Nero. Nero can only interfere with the physical burning of the dvd if it's packet writing software is installed which is "InCD".

Hello. I too have seen this problem. I'm currntly trying to help my father creating a DVD and apparently was able to get it working for the first couple of tests (could have maybe used a different template) but now it doesn't. We have purchased the full version of MF6 and are stuck as this is not working.

MF 6 Plus - "Show Highlight Button" not working!

Post by jacky.serpenti »

Hello everybody,

Obviously the matter is still not solved!

I tested the trial version of DMF6+, french version, by checking that famous "show Highlight button" it worked both on my computer and on the various DVD players I have (Sony, Pana, JVC).

Great software I thought (not only these buttons, but the overall features, etc), so I went to a retailer to buy one.

Guess what ? The retail version obviously is not capable of displaying these buttons, whatever template one might be using (I tested two of each type of templates).

So what, do we have to wait for a service pack or buy something different ?

Very best regards to all

Got the same as Jacky

Post by demolina »

I also experienced the same. After downloading the trial version and doing a test there, I was able to get things working. I also went ahead and bought the full version at the store.

Using the full version, I've tried using templates that are not in the list from the link above, and no luck. So is there any difference between the trial version and the one you purchase from the store? Are the templates that are included in the CD and loaded into the system corrupt?

Has somebody checheck whether the file(s) sizes fo the templates are the same from the trial and CD? As far as I know, I can't have both installed on the same system and unfortunately I have not had a chance to compare them.

Hello everybody,

From the link provided by sjj1805, I can understand the feature of the button, but I also draw the following conclusion that none of the provided templates on the retail CD has navigation features. And that is very silly and annoying since one cannot see where the focus is on the dvd.

So that makes it completely useless, unfortunately :(

Highlight buttons not working

Post by gerosm »

I agree with the last response. I have tried numerous combinations with the "show highlight button" with a variety of templates. Work OK on my PC not on the 2 DVD's I have. Both DVD's less than 1 year old. Took two DVD's to Harvey Norman and asked them could I play in some of their machines. They were happy to oblige. NO DVD showed any buttons. They said thay had complaints from some customers. Suggest you take your software back to your retailer for a refund.
My old version V3 of MF works perfectly. So Ulead saying that it is not a softeware problem is BS. They are happy to take your money not so keen to fix the problem.
If you look on the Uled User Web Board under MF, this item is the second most active Subject> So it IS a problem.
How about a bit of action from Ulead.
