Same Problem
I'm having the same problem with the highlight button showing up on the computer, but not on two different dvd players. This is a problem I hope they address. Is there a solution to this yet? I just purchaed the version 6 and don't like this problem.

No...I'm afraid there is no fix yet. We have Tech Support and a couple of other people working on trying to find the issue.
Hopefully there will be resolution soon.
I really like DVD Moviefactory and would like to continue to use it, especially this version since it's got alot of edit abilites and the ability to do HD.
We just need to be patient.

I like the program too, other than the highlight issue. It won't highlight so there's no way to navigate on the dvd players. I'm sure it's simply a shortcoming in hard coding of the dvd players as it works fine in the computers I've tried. I'm sure a little code change in the program would make it compatible with all the set top dvd players. I have version 3 that works perfectly, so somewhere between 3 and 6 they lost it. I shoot my own video so when I give someone the dvd to look at it and they can't get to the chapter menu, I'm not looking too bright when they have to watch to whole thing to get to the chapter I want them to see.

As part of my investigation into the problems experienced by some users with highlight buttons. Could I ask those users who are affected to post here
1. If they have any other Ulead products installed.
2. If the answer is yes then please could you also post which product(s) and versions you have installed.
Thank you.

Still Not Working After Removing Nero
Support emailed me asking me to see if removing Nero fixes the problem. It did not. I tried replying to support through the email they sent but the form they use in the email wouldn't work and there's no other way to submit a reply since you can't just hit "reply" to support@ulead to do so. Would you mind passing this bit of information along to them? My Case # is: 63983.
BTW... I have no other Ulead or interVideo products installed. It's not the programs on my computer that are doing this. I believe it's the code in DVDMF itself since I DO see the highlights when playing the DVD's on my Blu-Ray player. It has to be something simple that your programmers just overlooked. Something has changed that is not formatting the DVDs in such a way that most standard DVD players understand. Java menus? Who knows, I'm not a code junkie and hate the fact that I even have to think about this stuff. The program should just work out of the box. What's Uleads beta testing done like?

anxiously awaiting a fix
Hello. Was on vacation for 2+ weeks and was unable to try anything else. I submitted a tech support call and received a response that since I had upgraded from MF3 that perhaps I had some corruption from an incomplete uninstall. They asked me to uninstall everything Ulead, delete all Ulead folders from Program Files and Documents & Settings, delete registry entries related to MF6, etc. So I did all that, rebooted, and then reinstalled and re-built part of my project and burned it with the same result, no highlights to do a scene selection.
I do have a couple InterVideo apps installed but really don't use them so I will uninstall those next and make sure they are completely gone and try one more time. But should that fail, which seems likely as it does seem to be an issue with the dvd burning aspect of MF6, I am going to completely uninstall and install MF4 (which I just purchased off eBay) and hope for the best. I missed my first deadline due to this issue and had to notify our entire customer base that their dvds they ordered were delayed due to technical issues. But I need to get these produced this week/weekend and may have to just go buy an entirely different product to get it done. Very disappointing.
Does anyone have any recommendations of similar, comparable DVD production software that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? I wonder if Amazon will accept a return and I can get a refund for my MF6 upgrade purchased in April. If it comes to buying an entirely different package, I will have to try. Thanks.

Re: Still Not Working After Removing Nero
I hate that stupid form -- I think they created it to reduce responses, not get any
I've found that if you have web-based access to your email, the form works there -- just not in Outlook or Outlook Express or Windows Live Mail Desktop

It would appear that the button on the design screen to turn on/off the highlight images only turns them on/off (when they exist in the template) on the design screen. If the template has a highlight image it will still display on the completed DVD.
If someone has a genuine need to have a menu with the highlights removed this can easily be done with PhotoImpact. You could if you wish create yourself two sets of templates one with the other without highlight images.
If you want to do this then I have written a comprehensive guide here:
Tutorial: PhotoImpact: Creating DVD Menu from scratch
May I also take this opportunity to remind forum members that if you have created any DVD Menu templates of your own, then please share them.

had to roll back to MF4 but now I can select a scene
Well, despite following recommendations from reading boards, Ulead's tech support and anything else I could think of, I could not find a solution to the problem with MF6. My conclusion is that it is ABSOLUTELY a problem with the MF6 product and the sooner that tech support realizes this and quits blaming everyone's dvd players, the sooner they'll find the problem and correct it.
I did a clean uninstall of MF6 and everything related to Ulead and then installed MF4 which I bought off eBay for $20 (Ulead - you owe me $20 for your design flaw in MF6). MF4 doesn't have as extensive of a feature set, so the final product isn't quite as 'snazzy' as it would have been, but on the FIRST TRY, I had highlights show up on the burned DVD on every single DVD player in my house. With 25 chapters to select from in my submenu, I absolutely HAD to have highlight images show up on the final DVD played in a dvd player - otherwise, it wasn't even usable, you couldn't see what you were selecting.
sjj1805 - I appreciate that you are listening, testing, trying to help, etc. From your last post, I'm not sure that you are investigating the problem that at least I am having (and that I thought others were also having). I don't want to turn the highlights OFF, I need them to be ON and able to be seen and used on the burned DVD in a standard DVD player in order to do scene selection. I'm not sure why anyone would need to have a menu with the highlights removed.
However, thanks for the tutorial and all the info on creating templates, looks very cool. About the only thing I did not try was to test a user-created menu template, but I think others did with the same result. I can't pretend to be an expert and really have no idea, but the problem would seem to be in the dvd burning process itself somewhere, seeing as how the highlights do work when viewed on a computer and in preview mode in the program. Something in what it's burning to disc doesn't have some piece of code or something to make it compatible with the vast majority of dvd players.
At any rate, now that I have MF4 and it's working, I can try to be a bit more patient for Ulead to come up with a solution for this. If they would just take us (as I am for sure not alone in having this problem) seriously and investigate, they would probably quickly find the problem. I did respond to the tech support call that I had logged, but never heard back from them again.

Re: had to roll back to MF4 but now I can select a scene
Let me try and explain it again.frustratedusr wrote:........

When the designer of an individual menu template created a particular menu he designed it so that it EITHER had highlight images OR it used the colour scheme method of highlighting the menu item - not both.
Some of the pre-designed DVD Menu templates have highlight images.
Even though you can TEMPORARILY turn the highlight images off with the on/off option on the preview screen, the highlight images are still a part of the menu. They will still display on the completed DVD Menu.
Some of the DVD Menu templates were designed to not have highlight images and so these will never have a highlight image. This is by design - not a flaw in the software. It was what the designer of the individual menu intended it to be like.
I agree that it is misleading in the way the screen presents things and you would think that the on/off switch would PERMANENTLY turn the highlights on/off.
To have a menu WITH highlights you must choose one that has them.
To have a menu without highlight images you must choose one that does not include them. A mixture of both types is provided.
In anticipation of what our users are likely to post next I have already sent an email directly to one of the Senior DVD MovieFactory Managers suggesting that the on/off switch be enhanced so that it behaves the way many (if not all) of our members expected it to behave like.
This would require a bit more work than first meets the eye because all of the DVD menu Templates that already exist would need
a. A highlight image to be included into those templates that do not already have them.
b. Those templates that do have highlight images would need to be checked and possibly tweaked to ensure that the colour scheme for highlighting OBJECTS (rather than the highlight image) is correctly set up. Otherwise you might find that the colour scheme is such that it would be difficult or even impossible to see which item is the currently active object.
I hope that this clarifies matters.

how to tell if template has highlight images or not?
Thanks for the further explanation. I do understand, I think, what you're saying. So then are you suggesting that I (and other users) have selected templates that do not really include highlight images? How would we tell?
My assumption was that if the highlights showed in preview and then also show on the computer on the burned dvd or dvd folder, then the template does indeed have highlight images, but for some reason they just don't work on standard dvd players.
I'm pretty picky about highlight images so I actually go choose a template based on what the highlighting does because I can change everything else (background, buttons, scene frames, text, etc.). Maybe I customized too much from the default. Although I did test a template as is with no customization that appeared to have highlights but had the same result (worked on computer but not dvd player).
So if it appears that there's a highlight image in the preview of a template, is that NOT necessarily the case? Sorry if I'm just 'not getting it.' If I'm just not understanding what's included in a template and can do something different to get highlights to work, I'm all ears. Thanks.

In that case you have version 6. There is a list on page two of this thread
of those templates that do not have highlight images;

MF6 template used but highlights didn't show up
I originally selected 4:3 Thumbnail template 06_SceB10 because I liked the triangle in the lower left corner of the thumbnail as a highlight image. The color was right and wasn't your typical just a different color frame around the thumbnail. However, not to belabor the obvious, it didn't work.
I tried a couple other templates including the Smart Scene 06_OneS08 without customizing them. No dice.
I will just continue to wait for some sort of solution to arise. Now that I have a workaround with MF4, I'll just try to be patient.
