WinDVD 7 Files.

Post by goomba »

G'day to all.

I am using WinDVD 7 (and have for some time). In addition, I use WinTV PVR to capture movies. WinTV creates the MPG file and an associated file with an extension of IMG.

In the past, I've nuked the IMG file, and using WinDVD watch the movie (eventually buring it).

I noticed last evening that I watched a movie and the quality of the movie seemed alot better than usual.

I noticed that I did not nuke the IMG file. I then moved the IMG file to another location, watched the movie and the quality appeared to be lower.

So, I contacted Haupuge (manufacturer of the WinTV card) and they told me that the IMG file is used by SOME Windows Based MPG viewers. They suggested that it was akin to the INDEX file for AVI movies.

Everything that I've seen on the web (and from what I understand about MPG files), is that this is bunk.

I don't know enuff about this stuff, so my question would be:

Is this true? In other words, do I need the IMG file (typically 1K) to get a better quality video vieweing experience?

Thanks,

Goomba.
