I purchased WinDVD 8 Platnium but it will not activate

Post by richard20_bris »

Hi everyone,

I originally downloaded the trial version of WinDVD 8 Platnium a few weeks ago, got to like it, and decided to purchase it (i.e. buy a licence key) after the evaluation period had expired.

However, after repeated attempts, each time I try to "activate" the program I get a message saying "WinDVD activation succeeded. Please relaunch the application".

But when I relaunch WinDVD all I get is a dialog box telling me that my product had expired, and asking me if I would like to purchase or activate my product". This keeps on happening again and again, and there is nothing I can do to get my product (that I paid $70 for) working. It seems as if the license key works, but the product itself fails to activate for some reason or other.

So far, I have tried the following "fixes":

- uninstalling my version and then re-installing a new version of WinDVD 8 Platnium.

- trying to get a "new" licence key from intervideo.com (no good, I just keep getting the same licence key).

- trying to run WinDVD as an administrator

So, I basically have two questions for anyone who can help me:

1) Is there anything else I can do to get this program to work?

2) Failing that, how can I go about organising a refund when there is no useful phone number available to call on the Intervideo website, and everyone in the forums keeps saying that no one responds to their emails to customer support for help?

Oh, and if this is any use to you, my operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

Cheers!

Richard.

Sorry to hear of your issue, unfortunately, its quite common.

This happened to me while upgrading from v7. I installed 8, thought I had activated (I didn't I had jsut skipped it as I had visitors that night), and basically the trial expired on me.

Then my seuquence is the same as yours. The user is now stuck with an install that will NOT activate.

My fix was to reformat and reinstall the OS (XP in my case) and all Apps. Then immediately active the WinDVD8.
Intervideo owes me for wasting a day of my life for their stupidity.

Note to developers: if you check for 5 things to see if the user has valid credentials, then RESET all 5 when activation succeeds. How hard is that?

And vendors wonder why people hate DRM and activation locks. It only punishes us honest customers.
