Query about linking menu to an 'extra folder on disc'

Post by sixsr »

I've been using the programme for a couple of months now, for the project I'm currently working on my client would like the menu to link to a powerpoint presentation.

Is there anyway of doing this from an on screen menu?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You won't be able to do that with SD DVD Authoring software (not within the SD DVD Specs).

Sonic used to sell a product called eDVD -- that allowed you to add links to menus (only active when playback was on a computer). But they have stopped selling that product.

Thats what I was thinking, although there is an option to add a folder I didn't think it would be possible to link the menu to it.

I suppose the simplest thing will be to to have a note on the DVD or sleeve giving instructions of how to open the folder.

Thanks for your comments. :D

Yes, you are correct -- there is an option to add a "personal folder" as dvd-rom content :)

I've seen several DVD's where they do exactly what you are suggesting -- adding a note that the "personal folder" exists on the DVD.

I suppose you could have a still image or "slide" with text-instructions about the extra content, and you could have a menu-button pointing to that instruction screen.

I'm pretty sure a direct menu-link to a Power Point presentation would make the DVD non-compliant to the video-DVD spec. Movie Factory does seem to try hard to keep things compliant so that your DVD will play on any DVD player.

I think this is going to be simplest thing to do. What instructions would you suggest, to help keep it idiot proof?

Thanks Simon.

Uhhhh... I dunno....

Are they already going to know there's a PowerPoint file on the Disc? Do you expect all of the users to know how to use PowerPoint?

Maybe:

To open the PowerPoint presentation, Load the DVD into your computer's DVD drive and Double click the XXXX.PPT in the PowerPoint folder on this DVD.

Note: You must already have PowerPoint installed on your PC.

Or:

Load this DVD into your computer's DVD drive.
Open PowerPoint
Open the XXXX.PPT in the PowerPoint folder on this DVD.
