VHS video player (playback only) for set up?

Post by screwball2 »

Rather than frequently dismantling and re-mantling my all singing video player from the living room, I would like a small (playback only) VHS unit to have permanently in my computer room for transferring old vids to DVD via UVS. I do not have lots of room and would like it as compact as poss. is there such an animal out there suited for my purpose. I do not want bells and whistles, just transference of vids. Any ideas?

This is a normal video player/recorder, I wondered if there was a small play only machine available (I have a limited area to work) I'm not sure if there is such an animal? I'm sure thee must be.

Firstly, I've moved your thread to the General Discussions/Video forum as it does not apply to requesting help for VideoStudio.

Now have you tried searching using Google or any number of retailers that would be available in your area? The web forums are not a shopping mall for electronics, and while we may be able to provide an idea, you will need to invest some time in searching yourself.

If you have a Wal-Mart in your town I would check there. I picked up a DVD player to use beside my PC for $29 (US). It is real slim, and I would think that they also have some VCR players that they sell for next to nothing. Try Ebay Auctions also.

Just on that note. I tried doing the same, but when I opened the packaging, the thing had been used. I had purchases VCP (video cassette player), but ended up with a VCR. The size difference wasn't so big, actually, and my VCR now stands under the DVD player, and other video breakout boxes in my video room.

The added bonus, which I have used, was doing a family vid for a friend, and then her folks wanting a copy, but only have a VCR of their own, and living on the other side of the country. I was able to send the project, via breakout box to the VCR, and make a cassette copy.

(just my 2 cents...)

The way I did all mine was to install a TV Card in the computer.
This turns your computer into a TV set complete with recording/playback facilities including teletext.

Then simply hook up the video recorder to it using the connections available which range from co-axial cable to RCA plugs. You can even use the VHS players SCART output by obtaining a SCART to RCA adapter.

To use your existing VHS player, do what you would to feed other TV sets in your house. This can be something as simple as a Y splitter for the co-axial output, to one of the booster splitters used in TV shops.

There are also TV signal transmitter/receivers available rather like a wireless network.

You need to search Google and also the various computer/TV/ Electronics stores in your area. They can be obtained from places like Argos, Dixons, Currys, PC World, Walmart , Asda, Tescos and a few dozen other similar places.
