Does Videostudio 11 address these issues?
Hey!
I got Ulead bundled with my camcorder and have been playing around with it for a couple of weeks now. It strikes a nice balance between something like premier and something like windows moviemaker.
There are just a few niggly things and I was wondering if there was a patch for these or if they had been addressed in 11.
The 2 main things were not being able to crop overlays properly. It's possible to adjust height and width but you can only set a single value meaning you cannot cut something from the top of an overlay without cutting the same amount from the bottom.
The other thing is that it's not possible (as far as I can tell) to change the position of an overlay from one frame to another.
If anyone can give me any tips to get around these issues that'd be awesome
Cheers
Jez

Hi Jez
The crop tool can be found in the Video Filter section of the library.
The filters are applied to the whole clip.
Select the ¡¥Customise Filter¡¦ option top left.
The crop filter will remove part of the frame.
On the other hand the overlay track options, re-size the frames keeping all content.
You can increase or decrease the size of the frame using the Yellow re-size handles, but the content is still apparent.
With the Yellow trims showing, Right click the preview screen for more overlay options.

Hey Trevor. Really appreciate your help. I'd torn most of my hair out but you've managed to save a small patch at the back. I don't suppose if you'd also know if it's possible to change the position of an overlay from one frame to another. Example would be if I had an actor walk from one side of screen to another could I overlay a hat and change the position each frame to keep it on his head?
Cheers

Sorry about all the questions. Feel free to point me in the right direction if we're covering old ground.
I've tried using the cropping tool but as far as I can tell using the "cropping" video filter just creates a small box that expands out toward the edges as the overlay plays. I guess it's not possible to crop any shape other than a square or rectangle.
I just don't understand why they've made something that should be as straightforward as cropping a video so difficult...

Media studio pro
Ok, is media studio pro worth the purchase. I'm mainly interested in being able to add special effects to my films.
Thanks for the help
These are the sort of things I've been using Ulead so far just to test the possibilities before attempting something slightly more complex. Would you recommend media studio for this?

As far as I'm concerned VideoStudio could easily do everything that is in the three samples you provided using overlay tracks and/or chroma keying.
Whether MediaStudio is worth the purchase only you can decide. Why don't you download the trial and give it a test drive?
