Plug-in for Sony DCR-DVD101 Camcorder
I purchased a Sony DCR-DVD101 camcorder. VideoStudio 8 will not recognize the camera when I plug it into the usb port (ImageMixer will). I have changed the "Change Capture Plug-In" to each of the 4 choices and none of them will recognize the Sony Camcorder. The retail version states on the cover that it will "capture from all Camcorders." What am I doing wrong? I am unable to find another "Plug-in" specific to this camera. Since ImageMixer works it seems like VideoStudio8 will work once I find the correct setting. I appreciate your help.

You are not "capturing" from the Sony. The Sony is like an addtional DVD drive that has a DVD in it with MPEG2 files. Connect the cam and turn it on. Open VS8 and go to the edit tab. Right click on the grey area to the right of the screen. Select the option to import DVD/DVD VR and then browse to the camera and import the files.

Sony DVD Camera
I've tried putting the CD into the DVD drive. I have even purchased a new Sony DVD drive, NEO 6.?? and I also purchased a new HP computer. After a few thousand, 2 different computers and 4 different dvd drives (one of which is a Sony) - none recognize the DVD from the camera. As far as right clicking on the grey area - does not work. I agree it should be recognized as another DVD drive but version * is not seing it. And this is on two separate computers!!

Right Click Edit??
When I right click edit to the right of the screen - - - nothing happens. I am obviously doing something wrong. I agree with your thought process but it does not work.

Hang on...nobody said to right click "edit." With VS8 open click the "edit tab" at the top left of the screen. Then move the mouse cursor to the gray area at the right of the display screen and then right click. That is when you should get the option to import DVD/DVD VR.
Or go to "file" "insert media file into library" select DVD/ DVD VR and a box will open. Navigate to the DVD drive or camera and click on the VIDEO_TS file and wait until the program locates the files.

Right click to grey area does not work
I've tried your instructions above.
The software does not see the camcorder as another drive, neither does windows explorer. The Imagemixer software that came with the camcorder will see the camcorder right off. The USB driver is properly installed. I have 2 computers and both will not see the camcorder in windows explorer.
Finalizing takes a great deal of time and it seems logical I should be able to put the CD into the computers drives, but that does not work either.
I think it might be a propriatry thing with Sony and the Imagemixer software. It seems logical that Ulead would come up with the plugin for the camcorder but it may still be to new and soon.

Hi Bob,
You may want to verify what format you are recording in (Video mode or VR mode). I don't believe that you should even have to hook the camera up to your computer. Just work with your recorded disks- they are already encoded in MPEG2.
I have been able to import VR mode discs with no problems. Follow Lance's instruction or go to the Wizard and click on VR Import and identify your disk drive. Also, if you don't have the AC3 plugin (Dolby) you will not pickup any sound. Your recorder uses AC3 when capturing video. You can buy the plugin $30 or wait and see if it is included with VS 9.0- out in several week.
Hope things work out.

Bob - just do this :-
Take the mini disc out of your camera and put it in the DVD tray of your PC - take care to centralise it in the special depression.
open UVS8 at the edit stage and either :-
1. Click on "File" then "Import Media file to timeline" then click on "Insert DVD/DVD-VR" then browse to the VIDEO_TS folder on your Disc - select it and follow instructions and your video will appear in the timeline.
2. RIGHT click in the timeline and from the pop-up which appears choose "Insert DVD/DVD-VR" then browse to the VIDEO_TS folder on your Disc - select it and follow instructions and your video will appear in the timeline.
3. In the very bottom left corner is a little round icon with an opening folder on it - click on it and from the pop-up which appears choose "Insert DVD/DVD-VR" then browse to the VIDEO_TS folder on your Disc - select it and follow instructions and your video will appear in the timeline.

Sorry to barge in... but I have the 101 also
I am able to put the DVD in the PC's DVD player and read the files.
I have a different issue wiht it. During the edit preview mode I am not getting the audio to work, audio settings are OK because the sample clip that accompanied the software is woring fine.

Your DVD 101 records sound as an AC-3 file (Dolby digital). VS8 can only play that sound portion of the file or then encode to the same sound format if you have the AC-3 plugin. If you want to just listen to the sound then, when you want to burn a DVD, use different sound format do a search on this forum for a free AC-3 codec.

Well Yes and no. Yes if you want to encode to AC-3, No if you only want to be able to hear the sound then encode to one of the sound formats that VS8 handles. The free AC-3 plugin will let you do that. Basically AC-3 (Dolby) is technology owned by Dolby and to use it Ulead would have to pay a license fee. Maybe this support will be included in VS9 but then again maybe not.
