Video Clips.

Post by Rollason »

I am having problems opening captured video in the Video Editor of Media Studio Pro 7.
I have captured a number of pieces of video and saved them. The parameters I have used are as follows:
Captured automatically using the programme auto set up with 'DV Panasonic MSDV', 'Device Control MS 1394.' - from the handbook I understand that this should set all the requirements for capture and this captures OK. I capture as DV type 2
However, I am unable to open the captured files in Video Editor and they will not open on 'drag and drop'. The clips are Video Clips and play fine in Windows Media Player and Video Studio 10.
On checking further I find that the video clips are 'Intervideo Media Files'. I can find no mention of these in the handbook. What are they? :(

Possibly irrelevant, but why DV type 2? Unless you have a specific reason, type 1 is better.

You mention VS10. Did you capture in VS10 or MSP7?

When you say "open" what do you mean? In MSP, you can open only dvp files, never avi files. To introduce an avi file, you need to Insert the files. Click on the "Insert Video" icon on the top left of the timeline and find the file.

I understood that DV type 2 was better for outputting to DVD. Is this immaterial?
I captured in MSP7 but also have VS10 which I don't use.
The files that I have captured happen to be AVI files. Why this should be I don't know. I set up to capture as stated in my previous posting & I assumed that AVI files are what MSP 7 naturally captures in.
As I say, the files, in the insert files dialogue box, are Video Clips, & then under preferences for the particular file, are stated as being Intermediate Video Files.
When I say 'Open' I mean open in the Timeline

Many thanks for your time and assistance,
Roy.

DV Type 2 is the same as DV Type 1 with the only exception that the audio is held twice. Once as an integral part of the video data as with DV-1and again as a separate stream. Some older applications, such as Premiere, Ligos LSX etc could not cope with the "Video for Windows" incompatible DV-1, so DV-2 was developed (by Microsoft, I think).

Ulead have a free converter on the website for pre-MSP7 users. More recently, the editors have been able to capture and output DV-2 and the third party apps have been able to cope with DV-1, so the need for the converter and the format itself has waned.
