Welcome to the forum.

Have a look at this post and also this post which are also about this same error.
You can easily look to see if there are any previous posts for the same problem by selecting SEARCH (top of screen) and then entering an appropriate search text (such as Error 5009 - 0x8000ffff ) and then checking the SEARCH FOR ALL TERMS and then clicking on the SEARCH button. This is how I found these previous posts for you - doing this will often result in getting an answer faster than entering a new post.

Hi John.

I have seen all the relevant posts, but could not find any remedy.
The software was stalled before installation, just after the Install shield appeared, so there is no software to uninstall.
Have any other idea? I see that the problem is common to people that bought a captured card together with the software.
In my case I bought, through Ebay, from an Australian retailer a capture device called easy Cap.

Alex please advise the following -
What version of Windows do you have and what service packs are installed?

You say that you bought Videostudio 8 bundled with a capture card. Was it a boxed version of the software and does trhe CD look genuine (what does the label look like, something printed on an inkjet printer or does it look professionally printed and where is the serial number (just trying to determine if you have an original disk)?

Does the installation automatically run when you insert the disk? If so have you tried turning off the autorun feature and manually run the installation (via Windows Explorer) by clicking on SETUP.

Also what is the name of the CD disk? Mine is UVS8_E (just trying to determine if you have an original or copy).

Did you try and register Videostudio? If so were you able to register the serial number given? If it is a copy then you would have been advised that it has already been registered.

Hi John.

I have a windows XP Home SP2, as stated in my profile
I bought, through Ebay, the bundle of EasyCap capture device + the software from:
Lalith Goonasekara
4/16, Toward st.
Murrumbeena, VIC 3163 , Australia.
The bundle looks fine. The disk looks original.
I have successfully registered the disk with Ulead.com.
Got a feedback, upon registration, that I have a 8 se version ( have seen a post, stating this is a crippled version, done by the hardware supplier) but as said, no problem in registering.
I sent an email to the AUS retailer, stating the problem, and he answered he will send another 8 se copy, I am afraid with the same result.
Could you get in contact with that guy, in your country, and see what is the real situation? (Ido not have his phone No.)
Is there any solution to this problem?
I also applied to the Ulead support service, and got an answer to delete the software and reinstall it, but there is nothing to delete. As said before, the installation process stops, before anything is installed.

Thanks for your help.

Sorry I am usually too busy to check that a user has entered their hardware in their profile.

I can't contact the seller. According to the web telephone directory there is an
Gunasekara L
18 Gerald St Murrumbeena 3163
The listed phone number is +61(0)39564 8091 (if dialling from overseas you would dial 61395648091).
Have you tried contacting him by sending a message via Ebay?

The SE version is usually just a cut down version (not crippled) and has just fewer features such as (maybe) no MPEG support and fewer transitions etc.
Here in Australia they are probably giving version 8 SE away FREE on Computer magazines (cover disk). They also sometimes give it away free bundled with hardware.
I have used SE versions in the past without any problems and in fact use Mediastudio 7 SE.

Have you tried to install it manually? Use Windows Explorer and look for (program) SETUP on the disk and run that.
If that doesn't work try installation using Windows Installer (START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS).

If I remember correctly, v8 was slow to install. It looked like it was hanging but was actually installing (check your HD light to see if it is active). Also, try Alt+Tab to see if it is installing something else (i.e. QuickTime) behind the VS install window.

I also bought an EasyCap device with a CD that is supposed to install VideoStudio 8.0 (the CD actually doesn't say VideoStudio or Ulead, however, instead it says "EasyCap Caputure: USB 2.0 Video Adapter with Audio". I am getting the same error as described above and in other threads...

Is the implication here that a pirated or illegitimate version of VideoStation is being included in these DVDs? If that's the case I may have to consider filing a complaint through ebay. As of now it appears that I cannot use the USB capture device I purchased. Please advise...
