Help, What am I doing wrong?

Post by hey_moe »

I am using Vista as my OS. Also am using Ulead 10 with both Vista updates. Sometimes while adding picture, sound, transitions to the time line, right in the middle of a project I get a pop up that says Ulead has stopped working and I loose all the work. I finally get through the task after this happens a few times. Now what I have been running into is when I move forward to create a disk within 20 to 45 minutes I get the same message where it stops working and I am back to square one. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program. Shut down all AV and AS in the back ground and still run into the same problem. I don't have a problem updating from 10 to 11 but I don't want to waste the sixty bucks and still have the same problem. Have any of you guys run into this or have a suggestion. Here are my specs to my system in case you think the hareware is causing the problem:Asus P5W64 WS Pro Socket 775 Motherboard /EVGA 8800GTX GDDR3 768MB/Corsair 4GIG PC6400 DDR2 800MHz/Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 2.66Ghz Quad CPU / Zalman Reserator 1 water cooler/ 2 WD Raptor 150gig 10,000 rpm Drives in Raid O Mode/WD Raptor 150gig internal back up/400 gig External WD back up Drive/OCZ 600 Watt PS/Sony Dual Layer DVD RD/RW/Sony CD RD/RW/ Thermaltake Kandalf Tower/ Sound Blasters X-FI Platinum Sound System/ X52 Pro

What do you have the Auto Save feature set for (Preferences)? Some people have experienced problems if it is set to too short a time period. Set it for the max, but remember to save it on your own from time to time. See if that helps.

I had it set for every 10 minutes but went in there and unchecked it. I do a save every time I close the program. Will try what you suggested and get back with you tommorrow morning. It takes about 7 hours to do this copy. I noticed when I got home from work it had stopped at 19 minutes and the pop up said the same, Ulead had stopped working again, cancel. Do you think if I buy the 11 ver. this might correct this...Mike

I don't understand why this happened. I wanted to see if maybe I had something wrong with the project I was trying to burn on a DVD. I went to another file that just had picyures on it and it buned fine with no problems. So I opened the file that I have had problems with and removes all the music...low and behold it is burning fine. My question now is how I was able to listen to the music while checking the time line but when I went to burn a DVD it wouldn't work......you guys got any suggestions, Mike

VS has difficulty with certain types of MP3 -- or rather, with mp3 produced by certain codecs. LameMP3 is one such. It can play the music (usually) but cannot then convert it, as it must be converted, to one of the DVD audio standards (LPCM, Dolby and mpeg layer 2).

The usual solution is to convert any mp3 audio you are using into standard .wav format.

Hi Ken, well I guess I spoke to soon...lol. I removed all the sound files and after an hour or so the pop came back up saying the Ulead had stopped. I also noticed that on another file with no sound it did a copy but only 30 of the 372 pictures were copied. I did a second retake of just the pictures and it went through. It's a bite but I went ahead and rebooted back into XP Pro and am starting this all over. The project in Vista I have well over 70 hours and I am tired of messing with it. Ulead in XP seems more stable and I never had these problems before....I feel Ulead in Vista seems to work for some and other have a nightmare. Maybe in time the two will come together :( ...Mike

Ah well. I guess it is also illustrative of the fact that VS10 was never originally designed for Vista, and the Vista patch for it was really only a temporary fix which did not address all the issues. Certainly other users have experienced a variety of problems when using VS10 with Vista. That was the reason I did not even load it on my new Vista Home Premium computer. I waited till the new VS11 came out, and that so far seems to be totally compatible with Vista, and works just fine -- at least for me, since I don't have a HD camera. (Some users are having a variety of problems with the HD capabilities of VS11.)

Hi Ken, on this cruise project I have about 22 minutes of HD video along with large file pics. I wouldn't have a problem buying 11 but I also read other were having problems with the HD side of 11. Maybe when 12 comes out they would have got some of the bugs out...Mike
