No sound on Ulead Video Studio V8, but okay on Media Player

Post by pianolance »

I transferred a file from my hard disk camcorder by simply plugging it into my usb port and dragging the file to my desktop. When I open the file in Windows Media Player it playes perfectly. When I place the clip on the time line in Ulead Video Studio V8 I get no audio. I am a newbee so I am sure I am missing something simple, the audio for the track is not muted, but what is it?? Why no sound in Ulead (version 8) but the file is sounding good in Windows Media Player?

BTW - The file format my Sony HDD Camcorder uses is MPEG2. Thanks.

I thought of something else that might be helpful, there is sound when I place one of the sample .avi clips on the timeline, just not from the .mpg2 files from my camcorder. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The audio from your camera is almost undoubtedly in Dolby format, and VS8 could only play Dolby with an expensive plug-in which, as far as I am aware, no longer exists.

Not sure about the sample .avi. Is that one from VS8 samples? Not all of them have audio as far as I can recall...

I'm not sure if my camera has a way to defeat the Dolby audio. Does VS8 reject Dolby Stereo or just Surround 5.1?

I don't think there is a way to disable Dolby in that cam but a check of the manual should get you that data.
VS8 doesn't "reject" Dolby sound, it just doesn't recognise its existence because it lacks the necessary codec to decode that part of the file. Even with the long gone plugin it never had the ability to handle Dolby 5:1, only stereo.
