Begginers guide to video editing

Post by roy wood »

Hi People, can any one suggest please a begginers guide to video editing thats available in the UK, which would explain such terms as Codecs,Compression ratios,Key frames,I frames/de-interlace,Frame type,Frame size,Field type,Resolution, etc etc.

What I am looking for is an explaination of how when and where to set up and use these things that goes beyond the basic description given in the VS manual.

I have tried the trial and error approach resulting in a great deal of error and only patchy success.

Do you want a book? Before I bought any hardware or software, I bought a book called From VHS To DVD, buy Goewecke. I learned quite a bit from it, but it had some shortcomings. The examples used a particular set of free software, and he doesn't really cover DVD authoring & burning... only Video-CD creation.

Here are some web sites that might help too:

VideoHelp.com

DigitalFAQ.com

Doom9.org

AfterDawn.com

BurnWorld.com

There is a new book just published called "Digital Video for Beginners" which you can get from http://www.amazon.co.uk (or amazon.com for the American users) which starts from a fairly basic level.
