My SONY VAIO laptop came with WinDVD, and it worked well for a while. However, now I'm having Windows Media Player/WinDVD problems on account of, according to Windows Media XP Decoder Checkup Utility, my no longer having any MPEG-2 decoders on my computer.
Apparently, I need to reinstall the product, or re-download it, in order to get my MPEG-2 decoder back. Will I be able to re-install WinDVD for free (since I technically already paid for the program) so that I can once again have a working MPEG-2 codec, let alone my DVD player back? If not, will paying for a new version of WinDVD actually fix my MPEG-2 problem?
If not...
1) Does anyone have any idea how this could have happened? I know I didn't delete it.
2) Can anyone recommend any other options that won't cost money? I'm more interested in having a working MPEG-2 decoder than anything else.
MPEG-2 codecs mysteriously vanished - can't play DVDs now
