Problem with importing chapters within DVD Folder to VS10+

Post by richm »

This is my first post on the forum, although I have been registered since the beginning of the year. Can I first say a big thank you to all the regular contributors to this board - thanks to you this place is an invaluable resource. To date, I've found answers to all the questions I've had on VS10+ since I bought it in December last year, just through use of the search function.

However, I have now hit a problem which I couldn't answer with searching!

I have copied a commercial DVD on to my hard drive because I want to import one of the chapters into VS10+ (to insert a small part of it into a project I'm working on.) The DVD folder created when I made the copy can be viewed quite happily via WinDVD 7 and other DVD viewing software packages.

If I try to import the DVD folder into VS10+, when I select it (File > Insert Media File to Timeline > Insert DVD / DVD VR > Import DVD Folder > [name of folder]) it doesn't expand the folder any further so I can't select the VOB files within. The "OK" box is greyed out.

I ran the folder through DVDShrink. If I go through the above process to import the shrinked version, when I select Video_TS folder, VS10+ goes through the motions of parsing the DVD content and I can then see the DVD folder structure in the import screen.

If I select some of the bonus materials on the DVD, then I can quite happily preview it or import into VS10+ without a problem. However, if I select a chapter from the main film, then VS10+ hangs for about 10 seconds before it seems to load, but it appears blank in the preview box.

If I tick the box for the chapter and import it, it does import it to the timeline and the clip is the length of the chapter selected. However, if I play the clip, it is just a black screen and no audio.

I don't think this is a digital rights management issue because, as I say above, I can view the main film in its entirety using the copy of the DVD I put on my hard drive, using Win DVD etc.

If anyone can help, I would be very grateful.
