Video Capture with Windows Movie Maker

Post by shanksd@vanguardcar.com »

I am considering Video Studio 8, and I am wondering if I can use video from my Sony digital video recorder, and captured with Windows Movie Maker. I captured several clips and can't open them with my Pinnacle Studeo 8. Thanks.

VS8 has no problem opening DV and mpeg files. If you saved to one of these formats you will be fine. Not sure if it can do wmv files.

UVS can also handle WMV files, so yes, you should be able to open your existing Windows Movie Maker files.

Ulead has 30-day trial versions of their software available for download from their website; I would recommend trying UVS out to see if it meets your needs. Be aware that the trial version of UVS is based on V8, which had a few nasty bugs that have since been corrected, but the patches for the bugs don't work with the trial version.

I would have to say yes. I started with VS7 after deciding I would like something a little bit better than Windows Movie Maker. I had a long learning curve to climb up, but you can do simple stuff pretty easily and quickly. As you become more experienced and want to do more ambitious things, the program can grow with you.

Best of luck!

(By the way, version 9 is due out next month. By all means sample the version 8 trial, but don't buy it - wait for the new one!!)
