Chapter Points query (VS 10+)
I think that the above is the right term. I'm on the work computer and unable to confirm. I'm talking about when you're editing a video in the timeline and you double click near the top of the timeline, an inverted triangle appears which I think is a chaper point. You then get the option of naming the point.
Well, I put in a few of these chapter points in a recent video I was editing thinking that I would be able to skip straight to these points when I'm watching the finished DVD but was unable to. When I checked the rendereed mpg file on the computer, it only showed as one chapter. I know you can chop footage into chapters when creating the disc, but didn't want the chapter menu, just the option of skipping to certain points without the additional menu.
I've only tried this once, so may have missed the point, but what is the point of these 'chapter points' apart from helping to locate a specific point in the timeline of footage you are presently editing? Thanks. Glynn.

There was a patch for VS10 that fixed this problem. Do you have the patch applied?

Thanks for the reply. I didn't realise that this was a recognised problem. Like Peta, I can see the Ulead VideoStudio 10 Service Pack 1 (Release Date: 2007/01/14 ) which is located here. Is this the one? Glynn.

I stand corrected but i believe that feature doesnt work if you follow the recommended guidelines. If you have created a video file(mpegs) and then authored the mpegs then the chapter points dont work. They only seem to work if you create the dvd directly from the project file which, as you may have guessed, is a very unrecommended thing to do!

For the unpatched version you are correct. The patch, however, enabled the insertion of the chapter points, even when following the suggested workflow.I stand corrected but i believe that feature doesnt work if you follow the recommended guidelines.
I can't find the post that confirms this, but you want to use the Service Patch, as referenced in the earlier post.

In the Disc Creation module, you have to also add the chapters by hitting the Add/Edit Chapter button, then using Auto Add Chapters/Insert Scenes as chapters -- this should add the chapter points you added to your VS10 Timeline.dmz wrote:I read about the patch and had it installed and tried the chapter point business again and it still didnt work when authoring from MPEGs. If anyone else has tried it then Id be keen to know if my result isthe norm or not.
This works for me after installing SP1 -- which set my version number to 10.0.0110.2 Plus

Do you want to automatically carry the chapter points to the Disc Creation module, but not have a Chapter Menu? If so, then you can do that by unchecking the option to Create Chapter Menu (in the Menu Step, hit the EDIT tab, and then under Advanced Settings, uncheck Create Chapter Menu).thebiggfella wrote:Can anyone confirm that the above patch will enable chapter points to made at specified points in the footage but won't produce a chaper menu as is produced when making chapters when creating a disc. Thanks. Thats very non intuitive. If i have added them once then why should i have to add them again? If you do auto-add, dont you also get other chapter points based on scene changes rather than just those you added in the timeline? What I found was that the name you gave the chapters in the timeline was ignored and they appeared as "chapterxxx".GeorgeW wrote:In the Disc Creation module, you have to also add the chapters by hitting the Add/Edit Chapter button, then using Auto Add Chapters/Insert Scenes as chapters -- this should add the chapter points you added to your VS10 Timeline.dmz wrote:I read about the patch and had it installed and tried the chapter point business again and it still didnt work when authoring from MPEGs.
