16:9 Import

Hi,

I shot my video on a Sony TRV140 in 16:9 mode. When I try to import into VS8, it shows on my camera as 16:9 but in VS8 I see just a regular picture (no 16:9 cropping). Everything is stretched to fit the frame.

I bought VS8 because it supported 16:9 but I can't find any info on how to keep my 16:9 aspect ratio during the import.

Can you assist?

you need to set your project properties to 16:9.

or go to 'preferences' then check the box where it asks 'show message when first clip is inserted to the timeline'

when you insert your first clip a message will appear asking if you want to change the properties to that of the clip, click yes and bobs your uncle!

also, in cature mode vs8 does stretch the image, but this is only in capturing, your 16:9 will be restored in edit mode if you set your properties as above

Thank you. I see the settings and have made the adjustments. I'll try this out when I get home tonight.
