Hi,
I have recently bought VS11+ and I am having trouble capturing video from my MiniDV HandyCam. I am using a 1394A connection between my computer and Camera.
I can capture video using the Sony program Pixela as well as Windows Moviemaker, just not with VS11+.
The error I get is:
Capture Module Initialisation Failed
Capture Manager Initialisation Failed
[15200:12:0]
[15064:1:1]
After this error I also get:
Either no video capture driver is installed in this system or no device is connected.
Could anyone give me any ideas on how I can fix this and use VS11+ for capturing video.
Any help would be appreciated

Still having no luck
I am still not having any luck I have instaled the latest Directx drivers as some suggested amongst a range of other things. I still get the same message. The weird thing is that the camera starts to initialise then just stops.
Again any help would be appreciated

Just loaded VS11 made the jump from 6 which I used to start capturing old analog tapes via Belkin DVD USB device, which worked fine but tempted by VS11 and I get the exact same error. There appears to be lots of capture issues posted with this version anyone got any updates as to what the problem may be?

having uninstalled VS11+ reinstalled VS6 and installed VS11+ again VS11+ now recognises my capture device and displays the output when played. to be fair the install read me text suggestes that you do not remove the eairler version installing VS11+. However when I try to Capture VS11+ crashes or reports error " cannot start capture graph" I am sure I have seen other posts with similar issues but now moving forward but this is becomming a pain I only want to transfer some old 8mm tapes to the PC/DVD all the reports suggest this program is the dogs!!

We usually tell people to use the software which came with the capture device for capture, and then open the captured video in VS (whichever version) for editing. If the Belkin device came with VS6 and no other software, it is highly likely that Belkin may have tweaked it to work with their hardware device. Other harware companies do this but won't share the tweaking secrets with the software companies.

Thanks for the reply Ken, but is this possibly the same issue reported on other posts where VS11+ wont capture analoge sources? ie in pass through etc.
VS11+ shows the 8mm tape output in the preview window using the same device driver and hardware that VS6 does on my PC. I am not sure what response I will get from Tech support but I do think its a bug.
PS the belkin device was bundled with VS6.
As an aside if I do use VS 6 that also crashes when capturing after a while!!, are there any original issues that are fixed in VS6 and what is the best format to capture in, from an analoge tape to edit in VS11 later.
Failing that is there any rock solid HW/SW combinations that will capture from an 8mm source you would recommend that dont break the bank.
Ideally I just want to capture about 10 hours of tapes without sitting in front of the PC whilst capturing I can then cut the clips I want from the files as I preview them after capture, VS11 looks ideal for that, just the capture bit that stopping me.

It probably is related -- though for others (including myself) when trying to capture analogue video via whatever means using VS11, it would begin capture and run for about 10 seconds, before saying the captured video was corrupt and would be deleted. So your error is a little different. I understanding Corel/Ulead is working on a patch, and hopefully this will be included in it.
I have never used VS6, so cannot comment on what it may or may not have done... or why it too was crashing. Often, though, when capturing via an analogue capture device in DVD/mpeg-2 format, less well resourced computers cannot handle the sheer volume of data coming in. It builds up in a transcode buffer and capture is halted till the buffer is emptied and processed, and then the capture continues. But sometimes it all becomes too much and the process simply keels over.
I don't know the Belkin device, but your best bet is with a capture device which comes with its own hardware chip that does the conversion from analogue to digital mpeg-2 on board the device, thus putting absolutely no strain on the computer at all.
The Adstech DVD Xpress DX2 gets very good reviews in this regard. The Recommended Retail Price on the Adstech site is $129.99, but you will usually find it in the shops for a good deal less than that. Be aware that they just released a new version of the device at the beginning of this month which has Vista drivers, so if you are thinking of buying it, make sure you get the very latest one or else it won't work on Vista if you have Vista. If you don't have Vista, then I imagine you will get the 'old' XP version to be even cheaper.
Be aware also that you should use the Adstech capture program which comes with the device, CapWiz, as Adstech is a company which refuses to share its technology so that other software companies like ULead can make their software work with the device. But you capture with CapWiz and then simply open it in VS for editing.
